Exactly. Fran had one top 10 class, and Sherm pulled in that top 15 class of NFL linemen. The fact that Charlie has no bump is like a perfect storm going against them.

To make that happen you have to mix:

-Us on the upswing with a great recruiter
-Charlie and his staff not connecting with Texas recruits
-Mack Brown pushing the state to early recruiting, which is a cycle Charlie isn't used to and is late in
-High school coaches not liking him
-A failure to grasp the power of recruiting recruiting and social media

It's rationale, not rational.

It's a perfect storm. UT was on a natural downswing when he was hired. Thus, he's fighting against football inertia. Add to that the circumstances of his hiring: UT publicly striking out on several higher targets and settling on him, and you have no buzz. Follow that with Mack leaving him without a QB - far and away the most important player, without whom it's very difficult to win under any circumstance. Then mix in a 6-6 season with multiple arse beatings and two other in-state conference member schools getting all the attention. Throw in his draconian boot camp rules and living in the dorms... that recipe makes for a white squall.

And that's saying nothing of Charlie himself just plain not being a recruiter. He's no salesman. No charisma. You can tell he doesn't like it. But instead of hiring a staff of recruiters, to make up for his own lack of talent/desire in that area, which would have been smart, he hired in his own likeness. As such, he is stuck in a major recruiting hole with an office full of guys who aren't known as recruiters.

That's just wrong. Besides, I wasn't the one who started this conversation.

I'm comfortable enough with my sexuality to talk about how to suit up.

Charlie also doesn't understand TEXAS HS recruiting, which is a completely different animal. He doesn't have the built-in relationships with HS coaches nor does he understand how important it is to develop one. He doesn't - for lack of a better term - get it. If you've never recruited Texas, it's pretty damn hard to break into it with zero experience.

Christian Kirk apparently told Kyler and Jordan Davis that he was coming to A&M, but also told ASU players that he's going there. Great.

Why is it wrong? I love that guy! He makes my wife think I actually have a sense of style!

I promise you it is a compliment. I apologize if I offended you.

Exactly. He kept Chambers on staff to handle it, and it turns out he wasn't the guy to keep.

We are probably about to hire the guy Charlie should have kept in fact.

Sips were melting yesterday with the Weathersby decommit, talking about how incompetent the staff is with recruiting. They have exactly one recruit ranked in the top 30 in Texas. Wyatt hire would be doubly pleasurable.

I'll settle for 3/5

Kirk - no
Jefferson - yes
Bussey - yes
McNeal - yes
DeBerry - no

And then finish with KM, Sheffield, and maybe Boyd too.

I'm expecting Kirk to pick A&M, he told Murray and Davis on Monday he was coming to A&M.

Here's the current remaining scholarships:

2011 Class (7): B. Williams, Carson, Bertolet, Alexander, Cheek, Burns, Kaser

2012 Class (9): T. Williams, Pope, Ifedi, Matthews, Harris, Hilliard, Taylor, A. Williams, Obioha

2013 Class (20): Gonzales, Hill, Seals-Jones, Tabuyo, White, Stuckey, Parker, Mastrogiovanni, Ellis, Hall, Chevis, Sezer, Garner, Davis, S. Washington, Wiggins, Wade, Manning, Arnold, H. Walker

2014 Class (22): Noil, Allen, Reynolds, Jeffery, Iheanacho, Davis, Gennesy, Eluemunor, Martin, Ledwik, Gustafson, Harvey, Cunningham, J. Walker, Garrett, Wilson, Watts, Johnson, Alaka, D. Washington, Jackson, Henderson

7+9+20+21 = 58 scholarships. Now add Moeller and McQueen who earned scholarships last year and you get 60.

If you assume at least one of our RS SR running backs (Carson or Williams) doesn't return, that drops the numbers to 59.

85 - 58 = 26 scholarships available, 6 of which can count back towards 2014, assuming no other attrition.

We currently have 21 players committed.

That means we can get 5 more assuming no decommits or additional attrition.

WR - Kirk OR McNeal (not both)
LB - Jefferson
RB - Bussey
CB - Sheffield

That leaves the remaining available scholarship for Merritt, DeBerry, or Boyd

Now, scholarships could open up if we lose one or more of the following players:

RS SR Devonta Burns
RS JR Tyrone Taylor
JR Laquivionte Gonzales
JR Kenny Hill
RS SO Reggie Chevis
RS SO Brett Wade

We know we can count the following back towards 2014:

Ratley
George
Jefferson (if he commits)
Davis
Sutherland
Kirk (if he commits)

No matter what, the most we can take is 31.

I genuinely wouldn't be surprised if we went 5/5. I don't think it's likely, but it seems like a very Sumlin thing to do. I mean Malik has been a silent for a year, and Sumlin asked him to hold off his announcement for some offseason buzz bc he knew this season would be up and down.
