that article was more than likely written with that in mind. Lot of these reporters have ties to coaches. You scratch my back, I scratch yours.
But Wyatt is going to need to rebuild his career. He's basically been at every school in the Big 12 already and he's got ties to an assload of coaches. And yet he was available in mid-December and didn't get a sniff from anyone. I wouldn't worry about it. Good recruiter, meh coach.

in regards to the damarkus article

Well this is just another case of Texas losing a recruit, not A&M taking him from us, (they really think these kids are out rite choosing A&M over Texas, when in fact it seems to be the uncertainty around the program that is giving them a leg up) makes me wonder how much of their current success is based off of that. Well can't win em all.

gooood. The slow melt is the best melt. The more ppl clinging to that belief, the more enjoyment we will get next offseason.

from unknown board via 247:
Guy sat next to Daylon and his dad on a flight and talked to them for 3 hours. Some great stuff.
"- left for Baltimore from Dallas for the weekend. The LA kids flew to Dallas, then re-directed to Baltimore. The Macks drove in from Gladewater to DFW.
- the Teahuma (sp?) OL from Keller going to LSU is MASSIVE. He looks like an NFL player already. Might be the biggest HS OL I've ever seen in person. Looks like a 25 yr old man.
- Dylan Moses was also on the flight. He's a grown arse man. He's a 2017 kid that's 6'2" 230ish athlete. Will probably grow into a DE/OLB/or freak WR/TE type.
- There was another really big kid on the flight too but he and his fam were seated farther away
- I was seated on aisle, and Daylon and his dad were in my row. His dad noticed my Tech polo so we just started talking Tech and football. First off- Daylon is a grown man. He's around 315 and i'd guess about 15-18% body fat. He's a solid kid. Remember he played RB too. His dad doesn't want him playing anymore RB as it's hard for him to keep weight on when he's running so much. Also said his first love in sports is baseball. Plays firstbase. Also, Daylon has a younger brother that's a good athlete too. Taller and slender though. Plays LB.
-Good news part:
Mr Mack (I can't remember his first name, think he said Mike) was a really nice guy and could tell he just loved talking all things football. He lets Daylon do most of his recruiting and stays out of it. Wants him to learn from the experience and grow as a man. Most of recruiting goes through Daylon and his mamma. That said, his mom LOVES Trey. He's doing a great job recruiting them and his mom wants them to visit Tech.
- Bad news part:
The only reason they haven't visited so far is how far it is from Gladewater and also Mike played at Ranger JUCO and just isn't a fan of west texas. So they haven't really pushed for a visit. Trey is really working them and the love him. BUT momma loves him and wants them to visit Tech. When Murray committed to aggy it pretty much cut off all visit chances. That said, there's still a chance for a visit from the family to Tech. Daylon is a smart kid, and might use his official visits to travel for free to places like OSU, Stanford, Michigan, etc. So, he seemed to leave a small crack in the door for a possible visit.
Random stuff-
- aggy joining is a big thing. Very big thing. These top recruits (not just Daylon) want to play against the best. To play SEC football and stay in TX is a HUGE advantage. They said they wounldn't even been in the picture if aggy was still in the big 12. Malik Jefferson will be an aggy as well. Daylon and him are buddies and he said he's pretty positive that's where he'll go, especially after Kyler committed.
- interesting that I asked if ALL things were equal where would he want to play? His reply "Baylor". Take all your "they're just Baylor" and get over it. They are here, and are perceived as a top program. It sucks, but Briles is doing big things down there. I'm not saying Tech can't do that. If anything, I"m saying, if BU can do it, we damn sure can. You're seeing that with the recruiting that's going on for Kliff and Co. Both Daylon and his dad were very aware of the Stidham commitment.
- Message board stuff
Really intersting that Daylon and his dad both grew up HUGE longhorn fans. Mike wanted Daylon to go to UT. But, with the new coaching staff, he's worried they're still pretty far from being a top program. Also, he watched spring game and saw what we saw: a really really shitty offense. He doesn't think they'll be nearly as good as they need to be. I agreed. Said also that Strong and Co. are pissing off a lot of coaches and come across very cocky. After Daylon committed to aggy, coach strong was like "Texas is your state school, why wouldn't you go there?". Basically saying, that it's his right to go to UT. That rubbed them all the wrong way and pretty much pushed UT out of the picture. That said, Mike is still UT fan. He wants them to be good the same way we want Tech to be good. So......after the committment to aggy, Mike still reads the UT boards. Saw a lot of people ripping on Daylon and his committment. Said he was scared to compete/he's a follower/cocky/lazy/etc etc. That pissed off Mike. Ironically, he was trying to get Daylon to like UT. But he basically said, "these strangers are talking shite about my boy, why would I want him to play for them? They have no idea what's going on. So F*** them". Also talked about how their own fans were down on UT with Strong, etc that he didn't want him to go somewhere were the fans weren't all behind their team. So, their coaches screwed the pooch and in the end, their message boards jackwagons helped seal the deal.

cont...
- Recruiting stuff
We talked about recruiting and if anyone is pushing the envelope on rules. He said almost every school offers to "take care of them" for trips/flights etc. He realizes that they can't afford to fly all over the country to visit. Schools have offered jets, cash, etc to help with the cause. I didn't want to ask specifics etc as I was afraid that could lead down a slippery slope so we left it pretty open. Also note, the Macks are really aware of the rules are staying away from that as they know it's not worth it. He knows he can play anywhere he wants so doesn't need to risk it. That said, when I asked about how many teams are trying "really hard", Mike laughed and said "damn near all of them". So it's true- If you aint cheatin, you aint tryin.....
Alabama- only reason Bama is/was in the picture is because Bo Davis left UT for Bama. If Coach davis was at UT, Daylon Mack would be a longhorn. Also, they know what they get at Bama but Daylon really wants to be the face of a big change. Mike said flat out: "if A&M, Tech, Baylor ever figure out a defense, they'll win a championship". So, he wants to play somwhere to make a big impact.
That said- he mentioned something that Bama has that no other school has going and I don't know how but Tech needs to do it:
- Bama has a " Student Athlete Development Team": Basically it's a group of 20-30 people that work with small groups of students to make sure their grades are together/tutoring/nutrition/personal life/even as far as counseling just to talk about things. It's a really really big perk that Mike said got their attention and no other program is doing it on the level they are. So these "mentors' can watch over just a few athletes. That way, Saban has tabs and close eyes on ALL his players. Notice you don't see a lot of Bama kids getting in trouble/failing out.
- Kliff and Tech
Timing is everything and it actually hurt our good shot with Daylon. Funny part is- Daylon met and really liked Trey at TCU and Kliff at A&M. It's hard to TRULY buy into what they're selling now when 1 year ago, they were selling different respecitve programs. It started us out behind the 8 ball. If Daylon was a new this year, would have been a totally different story as they both like Tech but really had to make up a ton of ground. I understood where they were coming from, still sucked to hear it. But, they did talk about how much they really, really liked our staff and think Kliff is gonna do big things here. The appeal for most young athletes with 70 yr old coaches/"grandpas" coaching them is just changing. They loved how energetic Kliff and the staff are.
All in all, I never really understood how difficult it is for kids to make a decision. When a kid says, they're all my leader: they usually are. They and the families make friends and develop relationships with these coaches recruiting them and it's not uncommon for recruits to stay in touch with coaches after they go to another school, even while playing. Thought it was funny that one of the reasons Daylon committed so early was just to help stop the phones calls and mail. Mike said he fills a postal mail bucket once a week with mail from schools. Said he can fill a full trash can a week at the start of the process. If you think about it: you're 18, you have school, football and practice. Then, you have every school recruiting you calling/texting/mailing/facebooking you. Daylon had over 100 offers.......Then you have every Rivals network guy calling/texting/tweeting/etc. Then you have random recruiting publications calling/texting/emailing etc. Then, you camps, visits, etc. ALL on top of trying to have a social life. It's really stressful deal to put on a 16, 17, 18 yr old kid. I couldn't imagine it at that age.
Anyhow- the other stuff we talked about isn't really more than random BS back and forth. Daylon trains with his dad and is unreal strong. Maxed out at 600lbs on squat and his dad made him stop. Repped 225lbs last week on bench 21 times. Kid is a freak and will be an NFL player IMO. He's a smart kid and well spoken and seems to have the right mindset. Was refreshing to see a dad involved, but not involved as well. Lets Daylon do his own thing but only gets involved when it actually involves a decision that could involve money (ie- traveling, committing, etc)
In closing:
Tech is doing big things
Don't talk shite about recruits on here
Top recruits in the country are taking notice to Kliff
UT sucks
Baltimore has a bad arse downtown
Go Tech.
Go Tech Football
Go Tech baseball"

A Tech fan sat next to Daylon Mack on an airplane, and chatted with him about football/recruiting for a few hours. Those were his recollections of the conversation.

Pretty much says what we keep hearing regarding the current recruiting climate. Someone who's not banned should post that to shaggybevo . The reaction would be priceless
Oh, and we need a student development team , could help prevent another offseason like this

I got banned for life for just saying that Daylon Mack wanted to play in the SEC. That's all. Sensitive bunch over at shaggy.

I wasn't even trolling, but got banned for asking a recruiting question having nothing to do with A&M. As much as they make fun of Aggies and texags, they allow the same over moderation and groupthink to dominate their forum
