Lost a Little Steam

(2015) Gladewater defensive tackle Daylon Mack: It's not that Mack isn't a national top 100-level prospect, it's just that he didn't really look like a national Top 50 prospect. It's a subtle difference, but a difference nonetheless, as Mack displayed a bag of tricks that lacks a lot of versatility. Give this kid a world-class defensive tackles coach and he'll likely be just fine, but he's not a ready-made player right now because it will take more than a bull-rush at the next level against plus-level linemen.

(2015) Fort Bend Marshall cornerback Kendall Sheffield: Like Mack, Sheffield didn't have a poor weekend, he just didn't stand out as one of the top guys on hand at his position. Considering his place in the rankings, it was a little bit of a surprise that he wasn't more of a standout.

(2015) Clear Lake tight end Jordan Davis: I didn't hear his name from anyone all weekend.

2016) Allen offensive lineman Gregory Little: The current state No.1 for the Class of 2016 was up and down on both days of competition and wasn't the best 2016 prospect from the state of Texas on hand.

No. 5 - You want Nostraketchus, I'll give you Nostraketchus (3.0) …

I'm not sure when the exact moment occurred, whether it was when I heard the state's No. 1 player in the 2016 class mention that the Longhorns were in his "top 15" or whether it had anything to do with the fact that I didn't witness a single sliver of burnt orange at the Five-Star Challenge, while maroon could be seen at almost every turn, but I came to a conclusion this weekend that changes the way I'll be making my 2015 class projections.

Until the Longhorns turn it around on the field with a style of play that generates significant buzz, I just can't give Charlie Strong and Co. the benefit of the doubt when it comes to the biggest blue chips in the state of Texas for 2015. You guys can complain about the unfairness of it all and we can debate the ways all day long, but the hard truth is that Texas just doesn't have the juice right now needed to land the Malik Jeffersons and Kendall Sheffields of the world.

We're currently living in a world where out of state prospects are responding to the Texas sales pitch in a stronger way than the top kids in-state are. That's not me overreacting or crying that the sky is falling … that's me telling you the score. I've been in this business for nearly two decades and I know what it looks like when a school's recruiting appears to be followed by a Vegas cooler.

Therefore, I'll be projecting with the restraint of a nun rather than the fearlessness of a cat burglar. You're going to have to trust me that it's the correct path to take.

Texas needs to win fairly big or the final 15-18 names that will make up the majority of the 2015 recruiting class might be comprised of more names we don't know at the moment than ones we do know.

What the hell did I just read?

I am legitimately confused and fear I will only become moreso on subsequent readings.

Liucci does the same damn thing. Every fricking write up he posts (even the official Texags articles) have multiple grammar errors, tons of run on sentences and an overuse of commas and hyphens and shite.

Its become even more blatant since they hired Olin, who is a very good writer. Its embarrassing to compare the two.

I must admit that it's a little disappointing we didn't land a cornerback today esp Boyd. Not sure what more we have to do to sell the position. It's not like we're stacked 3 deep. We have a couple nice players but.....Yeah.

Is that Rivals 5 star camp review from Ketch? If so I hope Daylon, Kendall, and Jordan read it.

Saw they offered Stidham today and was wondering what that was about

FTR they also offered Waller

Waller is going to announce his college tonight I believe and everyone thinks ND. The meltdown in Lubbock is likely a no-go

FTR - nothing against KK but I was really looking forward to a good melt

Have the WRTS shirts that Mack had on in that pic started mass-producing yet?
