Offense apparently really struggled in the scrimmage, supposedly less than ten total completed passes.

O line seems to be struggling with our hopefully elite DL.

We will have no idea the implications here until we see them against ASU.
One thing I think Sumlin sought, that we may not have acknowledged as a benefit, in his DC was a guy who could present a better challenge to Sumlins offense in practice.
A good DC can make our offense better just as much as he could improve the defense.

I'm wondering if he has had the opposite effect, his defense is so disruptive that offense doesn't get the needed confidence and repetition.
This is why Bobby Petrino and Strve Spurrier never have their DBs defend passes in practice, they just cover then let the receiver catch it if they can.

Well now I don't know

It sounds to me like the offensive line just can't cope with Garrett and Hall on the edges while fighting to a draw whomever is on the inside.
I'll buy the idea that our defense is improved. But not that they are a modern day version of the Fearsome Foursome (Rosey Grier, Lamar Lundy, Merlin Olsen & Deacon Jones).
Christensen has 13 more days to find 5 who can get it done.

We've also been running the ball more than we actually will to try and get reps. Who knows what kind of effect that is having.
i feel like we're transitioning to an offense that would have matched our personnel in 12/13 much better than it does currently.

I just don't worry about offense under sumlin if the defense is playing this well in practice I will take that to mean they are improved.

Sounds like Chavis us doing exactly what he likes to do. Get pressure with the DL, take away space on the field, and beat the run with fundamental LB play and numbers.

Yeah, Chavis doing his usual thing to the A&M offense...whether with LSU's defensive personnel or our own. It's as if he is kryptonite to our offense.

I think way too much is being made of this. The defense always looks good against the offense in training camp. In 2012 we didn't move the ball at all and I think the offense was okay.
Our offense has like 7 basic plays. To this point in camp, we just run those plays over and over and over. The goal offensively is to get the execution of the base plays down pat. It's not hard to defend that if you practice against it every day all spring and fall. I mean you read your keys and as soon as a run happens, you know it isn't going to be play action or whatever.
Defensively this is repetitive practice of reading keys. The keys will be different weekly in season but for now they are the same. You'll start to see that change a bit this week as we name starters and begin installing derivative plays based upon their specific skill sets.

Don't go full TexAgs and read into scrimmages too much. A positive I would take is the DL being disruptive, but not much else matters outside of limited injuries IMO.

Tmc if the defense looks like the 2012 defense that would be good improvement in 1 year. Especially considering it is still very young

That's my thinking as well.

Exactly. The best you can pick up from scrimmage is timing quality.

I didn't mean it as a comparison to 2012. Only that that was the meme then too. We grew up a lot offensively throughout that season
But just comparing to 2012, I'd say our starters are more talented but have a touch less experience. Our depth is world's better but for the most part, in 2012 we didn't play backups and didn't have injuries. But our ability to roll deep should keep debacles like La Tech from happening and keep us fresher overall in late game situations.
