Yeah, but like Brian Kelly and Hugh Freeze, he won a lot of games at a program that's difficult to win at (except for 4-8/1-7 Kentucky).

To be fair to Lane USC would have played an Oregon team they already beat in the 2011 PAC 12 Championship Game if they weren't on probation

Too much of a circus and the autistic antics wouldn’t play well in most serious college football programs. It works at a place that hasn’t won anything in their history, like Ole Miss.

To be fair, "normal" coaches don't take at LSU

Brian Kelly?

Kelly went to the playoffs twice. Got his team to the championship before there was a playoff. Much more accomplished than Lane on paper. That's not even counting the fact he won several lower division national titles and pretty much built himself up by winning. Never had any relationship with high ups in the sport to get him good jobs.

Sumrall is climbing the ladder. He'll get a substantial raise. Every coach would leave G5 for a place like Florida. If his team is in the playoff it's the obvious 12 seed and barring an epic upset will be one and done. It's not the same.
