Because it's more palpable than admitting you just lost a game. It's easier to stomach if you think the world is conspiring against you as opposed to someone else just being better.
It's why conspiracy theories gain so much traction - they're there to convince people that it's not that the person succeeding more is BETTER, but rather because the system is actively working FOR that person and AGAINST you.

I never complain about officiating because in general I think it typically evens out. However, this year Auburn got absolutely hosed multiple times in the biggest games and at the biggest moments. We all knew it was coming tonight and the SEC did not disappoint.

They repayed Auburn the next series with the exact same call. They let an Auburn lineman tackle an Alabama player with no flag. It was egregious enough Herbstreit pointed it out. Not the RECS fault Auburn can’t hold on to the ball.

Rather than saying it is rigged, this is the more accurate description. They do all they can to influence the game without making it blatantly obvious.
