Yes Saban was a great coach, but you also saw how he bolted the second NIL/unrestricted no contract free agency was coming down the pipeline. Its a completely different world.
You guys had a top ten team sitting on the bench as your 2 squad. Those days are long over.

It'd be fascinating to know how the sausage was made in those days. Alabama could convince high 4 star and 5 star guys to sit on the bench in Tuscaloosa instead of playing probably right away in Auburn, Knoxville, Tallahassee, Austin or Baton Rouge. They can't do it now. Nobody can stack depth like that these days.
If my memory serves me correct, Pruitt paid Amarius Mims 80,000 to try and get him to go to Knoxville.He still went to Georgia.

Bama still has lots of talent, but it's wasted by atrocious offensive coaching for the last 3 years. The soft arse pass happy West Coast offense isn't built to survive a 9 game SEC schedule. They get massively exposed when going up against elite defenses.

It never should have been that way where a group of blue bloods could buy what they wanted while others couldn’t.
Now it’s at least equitable. Bama want to be Indiana? Make your university graduate successful Alumni like that can buy payrolls.
Aggies have Exxon CEOs. Texas has Dell. Oregon has Nike. Indiana has Cuban. Texas Tech has people. Hell Arkansas has the Walmart family. My prediction is they are coming soon.
