Y’all ever wonder what kind of character coaches put on for recruits?

I wonder how different coaches act around their recruits than they do with their teams, and if a player ever gets to a school and thinks, “dang, this guy isn’t at all who I thought he was.”

Kirby is genuine in how he acts. The recruits know exactly how much of a hardass he is when its time to get down to business.

From they perspective, I get what you are saying. But I know from experience, no matter how content they seem to be, has issues with their school and the people around them that I doubt they would want to expose to an incoming recruit. For example, my coach hates our principal, and everyone on the team knows it, but no one outside of the team does. Things like that I feel wouldn’t be a good thing to open with because the would act as deterrents. Idk, I’m probably just overthinking it.

All of the recruits are fully aware of, to a very hightened degree, the bullshite involved in recruiting.
Especially the highly recruited 3 star, 4 star, and 5 star guys.
They ultimately respond to the guys that they deem authentic, honest, and positive.
As a recruit, you've had 30 coaches in your living room and even as a young moron, there's still some human instinct there in your head that tells you who is legit and who isn't.

Nah, if you read the quotes, these kids fall for every BS line in the book. The coaches are professional profilers/liars, essentially, because they know that if they don't do a good job of selling bull shite to this 18 year old and his parents, some other coach will.
Recruits, people in general, don't want honesty. They want someone to stroke their ego and make it sound honest. As far as knowing who is legit, most of them have little to no chance of figuring that out while they're being recruited.

Some of the most non formally educated, street raised folks I’ve known have been the most intuitive and savvy people. You learn how to read people when you grow up in the hood. Especially fake arse people. Just because you don’t speak well, doesn’t make you a moron. It makes you uneducated. Big difference.

It’s likely common and a factor that contributes to the prevalence of transfer.

Having met Vince Marrow a few times now when he’s recruited kids I’ve worked with, he’s about as down to earth as it gets. They really push the “family” angle. Seems that’s a comment most of the guys that visit Lexington throw out in post-visit interviews.
