Overall, St. Louis is an underachieving market. No question that there is talent, but it's softer, rougher, less refined, not as ready for D-1.
KC and central Missouri teams regularly spank St. Louis teams in state playoffs. That's also true in wrestling.
It's the biggest market in the state, but when other areas were refining football programs, St. Louis was refining its soccer programs.

What ever happened to Jeff City. They used to be a power house in the state when I was in high school. Now you hardly ever hear them mentioned as in the running.

That was the Pete Adkins era. Adkins never lost. Now they lose 3-4 a year. Still respectable though.
The Columbia teams have gotten better. AJ Ofidile coaches Rockbridge. They play DeSmet on Friday.

Smart money on Rockbridge. DeSmet doesn't have much this year especially with Bauer being out for the year.

Couple quick thoughts on this. Over the last 10 years, KC only holds a slight edge on the STL teams as far as state championships go. Having said that, I'd agree that the Blue Springs schools and Rockhurst are year in/year out better than any one given STL school. I think part of the problem is that the STL area has nearly twice as many high schools, diluting the team talent. I think the individual talent is still there.
Also, I think you're right about the junior football in the STL area, though I think that's been changing in the last 5 years or so. You're from Chesterfield it says and they have a decent junior football program now. Mathews Dickey is always solid. Most of the high schools now have feeder programs as well. Hopefully it will pay off in the future.
Last note on STL football being soft. Since 2009, at least as far as Mizzou is concerned, the STL area pumped out 3 1st round picks in Maclin, Gabbert and Richardson. KC pumped out 1 in Aldon Smith. KC produces players, no doubt, but I just don't know if I'd call the STL market soft.

Over the past 10yrs it's quite dramatic. Take away Class 1,2,3 which are almost all rural schools and just count Class 4,5,6, St. Louis Area schools have 7 championships, Kansas City Area schools have 15 championships, the rest of the state (mostly Webb City) has 8 championships.
St. Louis is very Catholic, so a lot of the football talent is deluded in the Catholic schools. KC is not very Catholic and just about all that talent goes to Rockhurst.
Maclin was our Michael Oher. He had a lot of help getting there. Gabbert, I will argue, was not ready (soft), and that's been his biggest problem thru out his career. All the physical stats the coaches gush over, but Parkway West was/is a crappie football challenged school. If he went to a football-is-god school he could have been a taller Chase Daniel, and we'd be comparing him to Peyton Manning.
Don't forget about Justin Smith, JC Jay

Not much argument from me ox. My only point was that really STL isn't that bad at producing talent. I will agree on Gabbert's numbers, whether at West or Mizzou. So/so numbers in his junior year(didn't play his senior year because of injury) yet managed to become a 5* QB. So/so numbers at Mizzou yet managed to be a 1st round selection. I get it but I don't at the same time.
Big game this weekend between Rockhurst and East St. Louis too. Rockhurst beat them in KC last year. Should be interesting to see how they do travelling to East St. Louis.

It looks like LSU is about to gauge the interests of Roderick Johnson and Brian Wallace. They may make a push for one of them in the near future.
And LSU might be about to offer Terry Beckner from ESL. He's expressed interest, though I think USC is higher on his board. The geographically challenged of LSUs fanbase think that landing Pocic and potentially Clifton Garrett will give LSU an edge for Beckner.
Also saw a bunch of tweets from Ofodile last night talking about earning a Mizzou offer. Seems like he's tired of people talking about it.

Saw that too about Ofodile. I don't get it why no offer but I'm sure it will shake out in the long run. His dad played at MU. His dad coaches at a COMO high school. Kid's getting offers from other decent programs. Personally wish they'd pull the trigger.

He may very well want to get away from Columbia. Many of the kids that literally grow up in Columbia kind of want to spread their wings. Having said that, with his dad having played at MU and his dad being a high school coach in Columbia, I'll fire Pinkel myself if we lose out on this kid.

Kellen Winslow and James Wilder would make me feel less than confidant about Ofodile going to Mizzou. Granted, they didn't grow up in CoMo, but still.

Winslow felt spurned too by not being offered a job at Mizzou.
