Doesn't this seem kind of weird?

I thought it was kind of weird that he moved his announcement date up so far, but I guess he could just be tired of the recruiting process like others mentioned. It pretty much has to be Auburn though, right?

quote:I just saw that Bryan Matthews, Auburn 247 writer, posted this in a thread about Tre' Williams. Also throw together the fact that he said he can't wait to come to Big Cat Weekend on May 25th and it seems like Auburn is the obvious choice here.
He knows where he wants to go and is ready to get the recruiting process over.
However, my TTsTowelsense tells me to remain pessimistic.

Just seems very sudden. Usually you can see these things coming.

Considering how Bama was slow playing him early, hard to believe he would pull the trigger on them so suddenly. Only reason would be Bama pulling in Whitfield and him wanting to secure his spot.
If it is Auburn, we don't have a top rated recruit going into Big Cat Weekend and the coaches probably are trying to make Tre to be the face of our recruiting class at BCW. One of the biggest part of BCW is getting high profile guys talking about how they are going to make Auburn great and they need /can only do it together. Usually they have someone there who is the standard bearer
Last year we had guys like Carl Lawson
Year before we had Zeke Pike (5 star at the time
Kiehl Frazier the year before that might as well have been committed

Most guys that have an announcement within 3 days of naming an announcement date are known to be heavy leans somewhere and not a surprise. Nobody really seems to have a near 100% guess as where he is going/ nobody would bet a million dollars where he was going a week ago

Here's what Tre said about moving his decision date:
quote:
Tre Williams, the nation's No. 35 overall player and No. 2 inside linebacker, was ready to be patient and make his college decision at the Under Armour All-American Game in January.
But those plans changed last week, when Williams sat down with his mother and decided an early decision would be beneficial. The goal is to take pressure and stress off his senior season.
"My mother and I had a long talk, and we were listing the good and bad things about recruiting. Going away from home was a bad thing, and enjoying my senior year was a concern," Williams said. "I don't want to think about my senior year being stressed out. I want to get it out of the way so I can enjoy the season and help my team win a state championship."

Have any of you watched both Williams' and Gavin Bryant's film?
I wonder if Bryant wouldn't be ranked higher if his grade situation was better.
I would like to land both, but Bryant appears to be bigger and faster watching their Junior film.
One is sure to qualify while the other is suspect. Williams plays for a premier program while Bryant attends a shithole.
Neither are a lock to Bama or Auburn.
Am I the only one, grades not withstanding, that thinks Bryant is better than Williams.

I was about to post the same thing in your recruiting thread. I can only assume that grades are the reason we haven't offered (according to 247). Bryant looks more explosive than Williams and has better instincts.
Eta: But I defer to others who have seem them in person. Bryant does have a strange offer list at this point though.

Do you have more film on Williams that you can share? My opinion is based on a full season for Bryant while I've only seen one playoff game worth of film on Tre. I could certainly change my opinion given a better look at Williams.
Not trying to ruffle feathers here, just going on what I have seen.
The reason I say Bryant is bigger, other than watching their film, is that 247 has him at 6'3" 225 pounds and Williams at 6'2" 217.
For the record I like Bryant way more than SDH, yet Hamilton has the grades to be an early enrollee, yet Bryant may not qualify. Most times a prospects grades play a significant role in their ranking. See Marcel Dareus for reference.

quote:247 has Bryant at 6'1 225 for me? And from just the eye test, Tre is up to 6'3 (I watched him play bball against my HS and he was just as tall as a player on our team that is 6'4).

I'm just not that high on Bryant. Maybe I'm biased because he didn't play well when I've seen him in person. On film though he does seem explosive and he can lay a lick.
ETA: And when I say I'm not that high on Bryant, I'm not putting him down. From his film and the schools interested in him, I'd say he should be a 4 star. I'm just not as high on him as I am on Williams and SDH. Between them 3 and Deshaun Davis, this is a pretty strong in-state LB group

See, that's my quandrum with Williams. Not much Junior film. I'm starting to think that his ranking is based on Sophomore film where he was based on potential. I think he could start to slide once recruiting services obtain his Junior film and see that he hasn't progressed like they thought he would. It's happened in the past. The Oxford trio from 2 years ago is a good example of that.

And the 6'3" measurement for Bryant is coming from Bama' s 247 site after his appearance at Bama's Junior Day.
Again, you say you've seen them in person. I'm going off second hand information here regarding size.
However, film doesn't lie. At least the film I've seen, which I've admitted I've seen more on Bryant.

Game film isn't important when maintaining or increasing your ranking, camps mean so much more at this point. Williams went out, did well, and got invited to the Opening, 5* Challenge, Army AA, and UA AA. This is the time players take their big leaps, senior seasons rarely change much in comparison.
Kwon Alexander had bad camps, that's why he dropped. Struggled in 7-on-7 settings, then couldn't repair that because injury cut his senior year short...

Has Bryant made any camps?
I don't have a Rivals account so I'm not privy to information from their sponsored camps.
I remember you saying that SDH did well in them.

quote:Well I just found some Junior film on Rivals (subscription only) and he looks better than he does in the Hudl one. His junior film has gone out, and he did slide some but not much (around 10 spots on 247).

He's gone to camps this spring and has impressed, earning an invite to the Rivals Five Star Challenge. I wouldn't say he hasn't progressed, but I can see your concerns
