I wouldn't put him ahead of stoops or miles

I don't follow the day-to-day recruiting at other programs tbh so I wouldn't know. I know that Kiffin and Fulmer both had excellent reputations as head coach recruiters and Butch is probably more impressive than both of them imo.
The difference between most head coaches and him is that Butch personally takes the lead on almost every elite player we recruit. Not just a closer. Kahlil McKenzie said he has talked, tweeted or texted CBJ every day for the last year.
I'm not sold on Butch as an Xs and Os guy but he is as impressive as anyone I've seen on the recruiting trail.

It is considering all the top recruiters in the SEC. He wouldn't have even finished as high as he did last year had UT not signed 34 players. Going off of quality of players he finished 8th in the conference.

Let's look at the average star ratings at the end of this class. As previously mentioned, UT will likely land around 10 four stars and 4 or 5 five stars.
Last year's class is underrated as well. Time will tell, but I would take Butch as a pure recruiter over anyone except Saban. We each have our own opinion.

If you think UT had the 8th best class in the SEC quality wise then I cannot help you.

Yeah, I don't get that. Not sure why the bottom 8 or 9 guys being depth/projects makes the top 22 or so in the class any less impressive. We could have easily just taken the top 22 and then we'd have an elite average star rating, but we needed numbers.
Average star rating is valuable when you are comparing classes of the same size, but the top 20 by star rating is much more important which is why it's all that goes in to ranking the classes.

If 247 bases it off the top 20 for everyone then UT's average still finished behind Bama, LSU, A&M, Auburn, UF, UGA, and USCe. Which is 8th.
Right now, even if you add TG, they are still behind all those plus Arkansas. But either way that is still a long ways from 2nd.

How on earth do you figure that?
Tennessee's top 20 average was 91.769
Auburn's was 91.5955
Florida and UGA were just below us as well.
South Carolina's was 88.9265 (aka not even close to ours)

This 2015 class is a long, long ways from finished. Our next 5* commit will be Kahlil McKenzie, not TG. There are tons of highly rated guys on the board that we are in great shape for.

They only use the top 20 for class rankings. You are looking at average which includes all 32 or however many Tennessee signed. If you look at Tennessee's top 20 and Auburn's top 20, Tennessee's average was higher. If you want to punish Tennessee for taking more 3 stars/filler depth that's fine. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me though.

Exactly. So not sure why you brought up the current rankings.

Looking forward to revisiting this thread come NSD. Until then

@MrsAmyCampbell
Butch Jones in a bold move showed Torrance Gibson film of Quinten Dormady throwing the ball and playing quarterback. Gibson is now leaning toward playing WR in the SEC. #WRU

Another thing is that Butch is extremely hands on. Even more so than Kiffin and Fulmer who were great, great head coach recruiters. Any high profile guys are handled by Butch and Butch alone. His staff is nothing special outside of Thig either (on the recruiting side). They are pretty much a 2 man operation. Azzanni and Elder are decent and the rest are pretty mediocre.
I agree 100% with this.

Taking a play out of the Auburn 2012 blue print IMO

And LSU was going to land 7 5-stars last class.
Way too early to count your chickens.
