When people post the recruit's rating on here, are they using the 247 composite, 247, rivals, or espn? I just want to make sure what i am reading is consistent

They are using whatever ranking makes their commitment look better.

Everyone should use the 247 composite but a weak poster will use a different one

+1 to the above posts. If you want to be an elite tier poster on this board, use the 247 composite as your primary ranking when describing the player. It's fine to also include their highest ranking in addition but call out what service it's from.

Use whatever makes your commitment looks better. Composite really don't matter until the final updates are completed.

If we want to get to the heart of it, none of this really matters. But yes 247 composite is easily the best ranking to use.

I'd just as soon use 247 ratings and ignore ESPN and rivals' contribution to the composite. All of them have problems, but rivals' recruiting coverage in particular is looking and sounding compromised to me.

What are you going by to determine that it's a weak poster? Are you using the 247 composite, 247, rivals, or espn? I just want to make sure what i am reading is consistent....

The only issue with 247 composite is that it factors in the ESPN rankings, which are actual jokes.

I usually stick to base 247 because they actually scout the whole country and won't mark some down for not going to their camps like Rivals.

Just whatever you do, don't use ESPNs rankings. They are awful.

I think 247 base rankings are the best. A lot of the players rankings are fricked in composite because ESPN may have them ranked super low while 247 and Rivals have them high.

Even rivals is kind of fricked because they'll drop someone for not going to their camp which is bullshite.

Rivals and 247 had Charles Cross as a top 10 overall player last year (maybe top 15 for rivals) but he was barely a composite 5-star because ESPN had him freaking 84th.

Star ratings really don't matter ... but you've got your Rivals snibs and ESPN snobs and 247 snobs.

Me personally I prefer to use their offer list and combine results but, if you must, I too would recommend offering up all the sources available.

Bottom line is that we trust our coaches to sign the best available players at each position of need. We trust them to evaluate talent and find players that bbest fit their particular system. We trust that they want to keep their job and they'll do that by winning games with players they sign. We give them three or four for five years to make it happen and there is so much more to it than just a player's star rating.

We focus too much on star ratings at times although, admittedly highly rated players appear to have a higher success rate when placed in the right system and developed to their full potential.

The composite ranking isn't always reliable either. Often there are kids that never get properly evaluated by all three services. What I mean is there will be one service that just gives a kid a default ranking because they have to. The system misses on a large number of prospects every year because of this.

I only use rivals. Can’t speak for other UK fans.
