Thanks Missouri. :)
Tight end Kyle Markway (6-4, 225) of St. Louis, Mo., has committed to South Carolina. He is the Gamecocks' 9th pledge for the 2015 class.

I have officially committed to the University of South Carolina! So excited to join the Gamecock family and win a national championship!
He's a composite 3 Star on 247.
He was a heavy Iowa lean until SCAR offered on the 4th of May.

uth Carolina went well outside of its normal recruiting footprint on Sunday evening to nab a commitment from three-star tight end Kyle Markway of Saint Louis (Mo.) St. John Vianney. Markway chose the Gamecocks over offers from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Memphis, and Kentucky. The 6'4, 225 prospect is the No. 36 tight end and the 1169th-ranked prospect overall in the 2015 class.
Markway doesn't have the kind of star rating or offer sheet that's bound to create buzz on the message boards, but South Carolina relies on a handful of prospects like Markway every year to help fill out its recruiting class and have done a better job of converting them into contributors than most other programs.
Iowa was South Carolina's main competition for Markway, and when you watch his highlights he looks exactly like the kind of tight end that the Hawkeyes have typically had success with in Ames.

Flaming over landing an 83 3* that didn't even have a Mizzou offer

Thanking Mizzou is a flame?
We'll take all the big athletic 3* TEs we can get. Most successful programs do the same. Recruit all the TEs and LBs you can, good ones, because they are typically the best athletes on the field and can be converted to many things, as well as playing a lot of special teams early on.
Thanks to the state of Missouri ... we'll take'em.

It's a St. Louis Missouri TE. No, Mizzou was not pursuing. Already have one TE from Georgia and holding the last spot for Hentges. If we miss on Hentges, don't be surprised to see Mizzou offer the kid, though not even sure at that point.
He's a good get for SC. I'm just happy to see kids not going to Iowa. They have hit St. Louis hard for years.

This is why the SEC is good for Mizzou - it'll help you to keep more kids home. It's also good for the SEC, in this case SCAR, as I cannot remember the last time we've signed a kid out of Missouri.
Watching the video on the kid, he looks like a steal. Could be a DE or TE.
As a TE he has solid skills, seems to be a fine blocker, a skilled blocker actually and it is apparent he takes a lot of pride in doing so.
Aggressive, lines up wide at times, in the slot at other times, has good hands and catches the ball well in traffic and knows how to get past the 1st down marker and into the endzone ... but he seems to really like delivering big hits, even as a blocker. His film implies he has a bit of a mean streak.
As a DE, which is where he could very-well end-up playing for SCAR, he's quick off the end, likes to play in the backfield, seems to understand the game very well and again, is very aggressive.
Got a big kick out of watching that big 6-4 225 white kid run that kick-off back for a TD. He made some nice moves for a big kid.
His high school seems to be a bit of a football factory - glad to see we got our foot in the door there as well. Looks like Nebraska, Ohio State and quite a few others, even Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, etc., have been pulling out of there, and the entire area, for years. A city that large has got to be producing plenty of football talent.
From what I have read everyone thought he was a lock for Mizzou because of a big-time RB y'all signed out of there last year? Markel Smith? Or did he eventually end-up at Iowa? I gotta admit, I'm confused about where he ended-up.
But evidently Markway wants to leave the state, get farther from St. Louis and he let that be known early-on ... I think a lot of kids lean that way from time to time.
I had no idea the St Louis area produces so much talent until looking at this last night, but heck, the area really does send some big-time players to big-time programs.
He tweeted this picture of himself during his visit to SCAR in April.
He's the #11 prospect ( Missouri Prospect Rankings for 2015)in the state of Missouri this year, anohter service has him rated as the fifth best prospect in the state of Missouri ... I gotta admit, I'm thrilled to get this guy because I am old school who likes a tough kid, plays TE/DE and has that no-neck old school look about him. We'll see if he can play.
Bubba Spurrier recruited this kid and Bubba has an outstanding history of finding diamonds in the rough. From what I understand Junior has a ton of contacts in the area leftover from his days as WR coach at Oklahoma and he's starting to call on them again. We're supposed to be talking to, and developing relationships with, several others from out there for the Class of 2016 and beyond hopefully.

It's a pure guess at this point, but if I had to guess, it will be as a TE. He's a solid two way player in high school here, but you guys surely have more explosive guys you're bringing in at DE. I haven't heard anyone recruiting him as a DE, though I guess it's possible. His name isn't new in the St. Louis area. He's been in the backgrounds of discussion for a couple of years now, but always as a TE.

I don't know if I'd call Vianney a football factory. It is one of twenty or so private schools in St. Louis, which dilutes the talent for everyone, public schools included. They have produced some talent on occasions but there are probably a dozen other schools that pump out as much or more talent and they are no where near the football factory that East St. Louis is. Having said that, they are solid and it's a good place to get the foot in the door.
And yes, the St. Louis area has been poached for years. Mizzou, for whatever reason, had a strained relationship with St. Louis area coaches for decades. GP and staff have changed that in recent years, but the result was those schools you mentioned filled the void. This year really is a down year for St. Louis in terms of depth of D1 talent coming out.

I don't know why people thought that. Mizzou never offered and as far as I know, have never pushed for him. Like I said, they got one TE out of UGA and I think Mizzou has gone all in on Hentges, who everyone is pursuing. If Hentges chooses Bama or tOSU or whoever, I could see Mizzou circling back around to Markaway. Markel Smith committed to Mizzou. After Bauer de-committed, Markel de-committed. After Bauer re-committed to Mizzou, Markel wanted to re-commit as well but Mizzou told him no because we didn't have any room for another RB. I think he did end up at Iowa.

Lots of kids feel that way and is one reason I'm concerned about Hentges. He may well want a change of scenery having literally grown up in Mizzou's back yard.

It and the rest of the state produces enough to create a foundation or base for a class each year. It does not produce enough that one can rely only on it. If you want to check out a school pumping out D1 players again, check out East St. Louis. Always concerns about eligibility there (think they lost their certification or accreditation at one point) but I think they put 3 or 4 kids on D1 teams last year and I know Mizzou has 1 and pursuing a 2nd from this years class.

I didn't think this kid would end up being a big time recruit. Good for him though.

Why would Iowa's TEs be playing in Ames?

The one thing I do trust GP with more than most anything else, is evaluating the local talent.

Why did this thread get 3 down votes? Did the kid wind up being FoD?

Alabama Tide posters and fans are so arrogant! Every player that they offer is always a lock in their lil minds.
Congrats on the verbal SC, because the kid is a good player that Mizzou will probably offer down the line.

If it's not us, SC winning one would be pretty cool
