I remember my dad talking about playing in those alumni games, but not sure he got in on the last one. He would have been in his mid 30s by then.

Lake of the Ozarks is less than an hour away from Columbia.
re: Seahawks' Tom Cable: Spread systems do a huge disservice to offensive players

That might seem like an appropriate analogy, but we are talking about different coaches having different offensive philosophies, not a lack of necessary knowledge as Cable and others like him proclaim.
You mean to tell me that college coaches of both spread and pro-style offenses aren't spending the same amount of time and energy to coach up their guys? Of course they do, it's NCAA mandated and even if it wasn't almost all coaches at that level are motivated to win, so they all work their tails off to coach their guys. Some people believe in certain philosophies over others, and that's fine, but let's not pretend that spread players aren't getting coached up.

Sorry Tuscaloosa but Cable is full of crap. Any coach that complains about the spread offense not teaching fundamentals has never been around a good coach that uses the spread. It's football!! It doesn't matter where the receivers line up, the goal of every offense is the same. There are plenty of bad coaches who coach nothing but pro-style offenses and get their butts kicked on a consistent basis, and vice-versa.

Not much of an explanation RT87. Not trying to say "gotcha" either. I happen to think many football coaches out there have a hard time understanding that good, solid fundamental offensive football can indeed be played when spreading the field. The game is the same. Good teams still have to be physical no matter if the Y lines up tight or on the numbers.

Explain Justin Britt example from above then please.

I don't have a problem with him going to B&G game. He got done with the test before noon in all likelihood. Why not get in a car and go see spring game? I'm sure he put everything he had into taking that test. Sitting at home and hoping you scored well doesn't help.

Cable is either full of crap or the best offensive line coach in the history of the game. I tend to believe it's the former. The Seahawks chose Mizzou's Justin Britt 2 years ago in the 2nd round and he has been their starting RT for both Super Bowl teams, FROM DAY 1!! He must have been a little bit prepared before he got there.

Yeah, the past speaks for itself in terms of Pinkel playing freshmen. If they can make an impact, they will play. Beckner will be an example of that if he qualifies, and the D-line isn't exactly hurting for talent right now. I think the staff sees Wingo as an explosive playmaker with the ball in his hands and that's why they moved him.

Stec's 3 front looked like a 3-3 stack to me.

Mizz-SEC, sounds like we do the same float. We usually go in mid June.

"I really enjoy the drive north up Hwy 79 from St. Peters to say Hannibal/the IA border. River, bluffs, fields, woods...prettiest part of MO IMHO"
I would agree with that 100%

"because Arkansas was in worst shape when he got here DUH!"
This poor excuse for a sentence just screams Arkansas.

Hey reedus, my family camps and floats from the Highway K campground every year. The pic of the bridge is very familiar.

I appreciate the overall list of the maxims being posted and I appreciate UT's history. I would actually use some of the others like "A team that won't be beat can't be beat" rather than one that focuses on NOT doing something, like turning the ball over. I just think that type of thing needs to be emphasized in practice and I would think be counterproductive to put into the players' heads right before kickoff.

I knew the maxims had been around a while, but figured Butch was the only one hokie enough to chant them before kickoff. I was wrong.
There is just something about Butch that seems a bit over-the-top and phoney. He seems to sell it pretty good though.

I had never heard/read the phrase "shower discipline" before. That is interesting.

I wish someone from Tennessee would answer my question regarding these maxims. What is the point in chanting them pregame?
It's like saying to yourself "I will not get into a car accident!" every time you get behind the wheel.....and then plowing into the 1st Semi you see out on the highway. It doesn't work Butch. Try some different schtick.
