For people who don't know, Shannon Terry created Rivals (who he sold to Yahoo for $100 million) and 247Sports (who he sold to CBS Sports for an unknown amount). Well it looks like his non-compete clause has expired again and he's starting a new platform.

On3.com

Countdown timer says it is going live on August 15th. He's already "stolen" Ivan Maisel and Chad Simmons. It'll be interesting to see what some of the 247 sites like BamaOnline and Dawgs247 do. BamaOnline left the Rivals network for 247 when Terry launched it back in 2012.

I get that this dude has made stupid money in building these platforms but… why?

I’m sure it’ll be another solid stop and sounds like he has some talent on board. I’m just wondering how this will differ other than shuffling the mod talent around the sites (again)

Answered your own question. IF there is money to be made, he keeps rinse and repeating.

Sure but you don’t just make a 3rd version of something simply because the first two worked. There’s got to be an angle to it; Rivals just improved upon what Scout was doing and then 247 improved upon Rivals. So what will On3 do that makes it a worthwhile investment of time and resources with - presumably - an end goal of selling the platform again?

Maybe he made 247 just a bit better without putting all his improvement ideas into it so he could do this later, i doubt it but its possible. He has some kind of an idea that he thinks is going to trump 247 or he wouldnt be willing to sink the money into it. At this point he's like Tarantino amongst the sport message board people. He'll get a bunch of followers just because he's the guy that headed up rivals and 247 during their peak years.
