No early favorites.

Former 4* QB that signed with Mississippi State back in 2011, IIRC.

Off the top of my head, Florida could be an option due to the Dan Merlins connection.

Dang now that's a name I do remember, cant believe that was so long ago. Dude really spent some time in MiLB.

2013 class though, not 2011

Good call, couldn’t remember the class without looking it up.

Wonder how much he has left in the tank, football wise.

I find it interesting Mullen isn't offering him a scholarship, seems like he would since he did out of high school and UF could absolutely use another QB. I dont know UF's situation though, maybe they dont have any room left from their 2018 class. I know we (LSU) don't which is why walk on is all we can offer.

Very surprised Auburn is offering a scholarship to him. With Willis, Gatewood, and Bo Nix coming in, the QB position is pretty loaded already.

My guess would be AU wants 4 QBs on roster or there's a concern one of those 3 names isn't gonna make it as a QB

Interesting recruitment to track

UF did not go after Burrow. It was reported that Mullen likes the QBs he has.

If Franks is changed for the better, it will be the miracle of miracles, that's for sure

Otherwise looks like they may just go with the freshman and take the lumps

It’s crazy how far States QB situation has come. This guy was one of the best QBs we ever signed out of high school. Now he’d be the 3rd or 4th best QB in our QB room.

He'd probably be that anywhere because he's been out of football for 5 years now

Despite the report, pretty sure he can't go on scholly at AU til next January at the earliest.

We have plenty of room I doubt this guy is ready to play anywhere in the SEC. It’s surprising if Auburn did offer a Ship, with there QB’s already on campus.

This kid has been out of the game too long. Mullen would be his best shot, but I doubt he can beat anybody out.

I dont think anyone is recruiting him with the notion he could play this year

These guys are basically true freshman who have been away from football longer, but generally speaking more mature and physically better off.

Still when you look back to guys like Brandon Weeden or Matt Mauck, those guys spent years in college after leaving the minors before they started. Chris Weinke I think started early, but still his 2nd year in school, not 1st.

Well these guys historically have seen some success: Weinke, Weeden and Mauck off the top of my head. All were away from football for a long time in the minors.

Malzhan has had success with former minor leaguers in the locker room. Melvin Ray probably didn't have 10 receptions in 2013 but I remember him being mentioned as one of the most important players because of the maturity he brought to the locker room. Hunter Stovell was our 26 year old holder but was one of the most respected guys on the team because he brought a professional approach to the locker room. I would assume Gus would like a mature presence in his QB room next year with 3 green QBs.

Sandberg has narrowed his list to Auburn, NC State and LSU.
LINK /

quote:

Sandberg will visit N.C. State from July 25-26, Auburn from July 26-28 and LSU from July 28-29, according to Lee. Sandberg has an offer from Auburn. He would go on scholarship in January at LSU or N.C. State.

So Auburn would put him on scholarship right away while LSU and NC State have to have him walk on till they can put him on scholarship in January (numbers issue for both). Interesting UF/Mullen are no longer in picture here.

Keith Niebuhr of AU 247 says right now AU is probably the leader. Wonder if fact AU has open scholly spot ends up being the difference

Was a little surprised too that UF didn't make the cut
