Long shot that a 17 year old could gain 30 pounds to get to the 280's by his SR year of college? Really?
Nobody said this kid is going to start day 1. He is a project, everyone knows that. How long have you been following football? It can't be very long.

Do you have any idea how long it takes to develop 50 pounds of quality muscle mass? A kid putting on 15 in a year is impressive, if he wants to play as a redshirt sophomore he would need to gain 20 a year in his first two to get to 290.
But I will ask you a quick question...
Do you think it's easier for a 6'0, 220lb 17 year old to add on 30 lbs, or is it easier for a 6'8, 250lb 17 year old to add 30 lbs, or is it the exact same scenario for both?
Your answer will let me know the extent of your knowledge on how the human body works along with human potential.

Kid transferred from Africa and has only played a year of football. I think his measurables are the least of his worries for colleges at this point .

Are you reading the thread? If we consider he has to be 290, which isn't outrageous, it's 40 pounds. He can do it, but as you said it is a project. The problem is that when he gets there physically, there is still an incredible amount of skill and technique required to be effective at that height. I say long shot not because he can't put the weight on, but because even when he does there is a decent chance he pans out to be big and clunky rather than Julius Peppers.

And who said he can't add 10-15 lbs of just healthy meat? Dude came from Nigeria. I lived with a Nigerian for a semester. Dude ate baby food to keep skinny for cross country. Give him a steak and he would gain 5 lbs.

You have yet to establish why he needs to be 290 though. What if he is 6'8 280 or maybe even 275?
Of all the reasons that this kid could be a bust, considering he has 1 year of football experience, why in the world are you harping on his ability to gain wait as the main one?

Didn't South Carolina have a 6'7 or 6'8 DE a few years back that was pretty good. Think he got drafted in the 4th or 5th round or something. He wasn't more than probably 275

He ignored what I said about Chris Jones too.

It's not that cut and dry. It takes the same amount of nutrition on a cellular level for either. A larger person is building more muscle tissue with the same amount of exercise but is inherently expending more energy doing so. But then it takes more nutrition for a larger person to exercise effectively due to the extra force required in literally everything they do.
That's not even considering that someone that tall needs much more bone density to offset the added stress that results from bones and ligaments being longer. And the cardio challenges that come with being that large.
That being said, it's easier for a larger person to gain muscle, but that's really simplifying the situation. He's not just having to add muscle, its muscle, developing his cardio with it, and developing proper bone density which isn't as easy to expedite as muscle development. He has a lot of work to do.

Obviously not definitely but it doesn't help his chances.

No, not at all. Jones added about 30 pounds in his first year, he put on weight and moved to DT. This kid doesn't have the benefit of being able to gain some garbage weight, if he's going to be at DE it needs to be quality muscle.

Back on topic. He is ours to lose. Bama has never been in the picture. The only thing that worries me is Oregon jumped into the picture. Strange.
