The decision to ban athletic satellite camps has dominated the headlines in recent weeks, but another rule that recently passed will also have a big impact on the NCAA and recruiting.
Proposal 2015-52 will allow institutions to pay the actual round-trip costs for a prospective student-athlete's parents or legal guardians to accompany the prospect on his official visit and will be implemented August 1, 2016.
The vote passed 14-1 with only the Sun Belt Conference voting against it, according to the NCAA's Division I Council report.
The current rule allowed for only the prospect's travel and accommodations to be paid for and prohibited schools from paying for transportation costs incurred by relatives, friends or legal guardians. Under that rule, prospects were either taking official visits by themselves or parents, guardians or high school coaches were taking on the costs to accompany the recruit on the visit.
The new rule specifies the funds will be available for transportation and meals for the parents or guardians. Prospective student-athletes are permitted to take five official visits starting on the first day of classes of the prospective student-athlete's senior year, so this rule will be in place for the Class of 2017.

Good rule. We received a secondary for paying four dollars and change for a step father's meal.

Agree this is a great rule, although I wouldn't mind it being something like 2 family members. If you are close with a brother/sister/uncle then why shouldn't they count as 1 of your 2
I think the NCAA just needs to take a step back and realize recruiting, for the most part, is done in junior years of high school now. If they want to 'catch-up' they need to re-think the official visit timeline

Long time coming and unsurprising that it took this long for such a shite organization to approve. Like the above person said, it should be family members. Some of these kids look up to their siblings more than their parents (and sometimes for good reason).

Also think Ole Miss got hit because he stayed at the hotel room we provided the Mother.

Glad they did that, it makes sense.

Very good rule change. Would have saved the Arky posters on this board a lot of digital tears during Fulton's OV.

The school still has to pay. Hawaii has strict rules on getting an official visit from them because it would cost them a fortune to bring in all the recruits that would want to visit there.

This sucks... best part of going on officials was no parents there. I suspect the combined ov's for all applauding this is 0.

This; Hawaii chooses what kids visit. Unlike every other school who lets anybody and everybody come just to get bodies on campus they only take the kids with whom they have a shot at actually landing. Just being the BMOC at IMG or Gorman ain't getting you a free trip to Hawaii.
