LSU taking a graduate transfer - what is the situation there?

I'd read a couple places that LSU couldn't take a transfer for 2020 because of a grad transfer in 2019 (?) from Stanford maybe that left early and didn't get his grad degree, and that there is a penalty for this that does not allow you to take a grad transfer the next year.
Is that true or just an erroneous interpretation?

Think we cant take one until summer or fall enrollment period or something, it's a 2 year ban when a grad transfer gets in academic trouble. Terrance Alexander quit school in middle of semester which got us in trouble there.
He was a 2018 guy, which is why I think we cant take one till actual 2020 class so no early enrolling someone this semester.

That’s kind of a shitty rule/deal. I get why there needs to be something in place but I feel like the NCAA should be able to determine pretty easily if the school is trying to violate the spirit of the grad transfer rule or not and punish accordingly

That seems crazy. The school gets penalized because of a decision the kid makes?
I mean, i get it that they want to ensure there isn't any hanky panky going on, but still....

He enrolled summer/fall 2018 so we cant enroll another grad transfer I think until summer/fall 2020 under 2 year rule.
Trying to remember what happened specifically there but has to be related to the fall semester of 2018, for them to do something. Although he played in bowl game against UCF. I know he tried out for NFL in the spring of 2019. Maybe he enrolled in classes in spring 2019 and quit and that's what did it in, even though his football eligibility was exhausted. Weird situation all around.

So LSU can’t sign D’Eriq King, Grad Transfer QB out of Houston?

I dont believe we can take any grad transfer to enroll this spring semester, but could in summer or maybe fall semester...but a lot of this is just what people are speculating, nothing that's been concrete told, although I doubt they want that out there unless it had to be we cant sign a grad transfer till x semester.

Wouldn't LSU be able to take King regardless of him being a "graduate" or not since he used a standard redshirt last year? Not like he played the entire year and then transferred using the grad transfer model. Or does the fact he graduated move him under the terms of that rule?

If he's a grad transfer we cant take him till our "Ban" is up. It's a grad transfer rule. If it's a regular transfer, one that has to sit out, we'd be able to take them now.
All in all I dont think it matters for King, we wont be going after him. I see him ending up at Arkansas, Oklahoma or the sorts.

He took his redshirt at UH. It's not like he transferred and then sat. All in all though the player is a grad transfer.

Who would have thought a freaking Stanford grad would have done that

This happened to Tennessee this past season because Keller Chryst and Madre London both left in bad standing after the 18 season.

I think LSU was penalized for that. Not sure what you’re hearing.

We can’t take one until after the spring semester is completed.

The restriction ends in May. In June LSU can add via the portal.
