People keep saying that, but it's not true at all. Harvard cannot give out athletic scholarships. Period.
They can admit him into school because they want him on the football team. They can even offer him an academic scholarship if they feel inclined. I highly doubt they would be offering a full ride though. That would be ultra rare.

It was mentioned in a thread over on the LSU Recruiting Board that some of the Ivys will give "need-based" grants to a limited number of athletes who qualify for admission. They are not athletic scholarships, but they pay for a large portion to all of the student's tuition.
In truth, it just sounds like a way to do an end-around their own Ivy League rules against athletic scholarships.

That's correct. But that isn't the same thing as a D-1 football scholarship where tuition, room and board, books, and meals are all paid for and the student athlete gets a small stipend at a school like LSU. That's a huge difference than a grant that would cover partial tuition and the rest is left on the athlete and/or his family.

Free ride or not, my kid wouldn't turn down Harvard.

Umm, schools like Harvard are not expensive to attend if you can get accepted. They look at your family's finances and if it's not above a certain amount you pretty much get a subsidized ride that just about anyone can afford. Their endowments are so large they can afford to pretty much pay for the best students. Lindsey Scott would've gotten the equivalent of an athletic scholarship, just not in name.

His father is an attorney with his own Law Firm, doubt he'd quality for a hardship scholarship.

What does that have to do with anything? There is a lot of tall QBs who suck arse and can't get it done either.
You coonasses have short memories on all the BS that was spewed about SP....but hey "short (like midget sized), very athletic & cerebral" QBs worked great in the SEC...just ask aTm about it.

And going into the season his team will be eligible for bowls and Atlanta, unlike OM.

Nope, y'all had to reach to the bottom of the barrel to get a QB in this class after ragging about SP being short and a noodle arm. As for aTm....y'all are praying something comes fro the NCAA so we'd replace you as the cellar dwellers of the SEC West

5'11... maybe it's the Treon Harris hangover, but shorter dual threat QBs just make me nervous now....
6'5 or 6'6 though... yeah i like that...
LSU has an amazing class - just think the weak point for them is QB. Had they picked up Franks this might actually be the greatest on paper class of all time.

Franks was our guy all the way but he got cold feet about playing for Les Miles. I can't say I blame him when even our own mouthbreather fans can't shut up about how Miles is a QB killer.
Scott is definitely a consolation prize, but at least he has potential. LSU absolutely has to lock down a top flight QB prospect next year though. Lowell Narcisse is number 1 right now.

Absolutely not. This guy has great vision, is very intelligent and delivers the ball quickly. Great decision making. This isn't a move for depth, he'll push for playing time quickly.

Smart, pretty athletic, fairly accurate. Mediocre arm strength though which is why he was lightly recruited (along with size). This was LSU's last resort at QB for this class.

Tarding up a thread again?
Shocker.

This is the long and short of it. Kid is a very good athlete, but he was absolutely a last resort for LSU.

The quote didn't mention hardship scholarship. It is very easy to finance an Ivy League education. I don't understand why people keep repeating nonsense.

Well, in this kid's case it's likely his family would've had to either finance or come out of pocket for at least a portion of his education at Harvard. My point is that a Harvard education is more than worth whatever financial hardship that it may (or may not) bring his family. And, I do believe a Harvard education, including those that bring financial hardships to a family, is worth infinitely more than a free education from LSU.

The plus side to this kid is that he loves LSU so if it doesn't work out at QB, he would probably change positions before transferring.
