He is doing what every recruit should which is ensure that he chose the right school. The only way to do that is go to other schools and compare.
That being said, he loved Auburn for more reasons than the coaching staff. His father is a huge fan of Auburn and the fact that it is an hour and a half from Atlanta. All they are waiting on is the DLine coach.
Until the DLine coach is hired no shite he isn't 100% but he is still ours to lose

"Carl felt like the best overall fit was Auburn. The school, the town, the people, that's why he committed. When the coaching staff changed, there was other stuff he liked about Auburn."
Eh, I still like our chances if we can get Rocker.

No doubt in my mind he is referring to us when he says "a few others".

Why would Rocker leave the NFL to come back and coach the DL? Wouldnt that be a downward move?

Not trying to argue your point but a coach in his first year with a 2nd year QB probably gets a pass. I could be wrong though.

maybe, but it's not like we're just pissing in the wind by throwing his name out there based on circumstances(alma mater, previously coached with the HC, and uncertainty in his job).

I believe they've already talked. These pay sites believe that they're probably waiting for the NFL season to be over before it's announced, but they've been wrong before.
