What did you guys do to this kid? That sounds like a hell of a chip on the shoulder of a LA kid, which are usually all about the in-state option.
Glad we had a good visit with him and interesting that he is confident that DB is the way he wants to go. Not a ton of 6'3" DBs out there.

He doesnt have an LSU offer and maybe feels slighted? Who knows...
It does say this in the article:
"The previously mentioned frustration he feels with LSU stems from being to a couple of camps in Baton Rouge as an in-state kid but not garnering an offer."

Yeah, I saw that as well, but was wondering if any more to it. Kids gonna be kids though, so mole hills become mountains often.

Yeah they dont clarify if he said that specifically or they are taking it from context. I know we have higher guys on the board at CB which is probably why he doesnt have an offer if he wants to play CB. Will be interesting to see if he's open to WR because if we cant get Devonta Smith in-state (I dont think we will with his handler being at Bama) he may be up for an offer as a WR.

If he's a DB, why does it matter where Tate Martell, 5 star QB, goes? He's from a TINY school in North Louisiana. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if LSU has never stopped by at all. LSU really hasn't taken many 1A athletes recently. Maybe he's one that slipped through the cracks. His tape looks really good, very impressive.
Maybe LSU is waiting to offer due to competition and the fact they recruit nationally now instead of locally. Might've pegged him as a WR and he didn't impress at camp.

247 guys are saying he may get an offer at WR eventually but his spurning of LSU mostly has to do with not getting an offer and Tony Ball talking down to him at a camp....thank God that guy is gone.

What job can you get with a degree in African Studies? I understand taking it as a class, but as an entire degree?

I was thinking the same thing... school seems important but he's got his mind set on a degree with essentially 1 career path... academia.

I got the DB thing from another article I was reading where Smart basically asked him to pick what side of the ball he intended to play on and he said DB.
The Tony Ball bit there is what I was wondering about. Was curious if he got a distaste for the school based on some kind of interaction with a member of the staff. I don't miss him one bit after his time with the Dawgs. I can imagine you guys will be glad that you only had him for a single season.

To say we upgraded in a major way this offseason going from Tony Ball to Dameyune Craig and Kevin Steele to Dave Aranda would be putting it lightly.

He had UGA tied with Texas A&M as his leader
Well if he really wants to beat LSU he can rule out A&M

Tweeted this right after returning from Georgia. Won't be many opportunities to play LSU as a Georgia player.

According to twitter location services, was posted from Oxford, Alabama. I too would rather be somewhere else than Oxford, AL.

Even one chance to play at UGA is likely more opportunities to win that matchup than 4 years at aTm...

I haven't heard anything but I would lean towards something happening with Ball. It's been rumored he got into in with a current WR and didn't mesh with the other coaches. Not a single tear was shed when he left BR and I don't even think he's found a new job.

Oversized DBs are exactly what our defense calls for but 6-3 might be a little too oversized.

Smart's DB strategy appears to fall in line with what we saw at Bama the last few years, which is to say rarely recruiting pure safeties, and instead opting for guys that have great cover skills and good body types for "DB" without determining which slot immediately... giving more flexible coverage options. Targeting among other rule changes that favor offense have largely rendered the traditional SS position obsolete, so could easily see a 6'3" guy with good cover skills taking one of the safety positions or even the star/nickel spot.
