From ESPN's top 25:

2- Alabama, 4-LSU, 5-Auburn, 6-Georgia, 7-Florida, 8-TAMU, 18-South Carolina, 20-Mississippi State, 21-Tennessee, 24-Kentucky.

First off, jeez at how GOOD the SEC recruited, and how tight the top 6 classes are in the top 10. Wow. No wonder this conference is so brutal. And four of the top ten classes in the country are in the SEC West. Five are in the top twenty. No other division in the country is as tough. Not even close. Going 8 wins in this division is good. 10 wins is a frickin' badge of honor.

In summary:

So much for "Gus just not recruiting as well as the competition".

South Carolina; Muschamp can't head coach worth a damn, but he can damn sure recruit.

Mississippi State; make fun of their coach, but getting a top 20 class to Starkville is something to be proud of.

Tennessee; on their way back, but a long, long way to go.

Kentucky; what Stoops has done for that program is outstanding. As bad as they've been in the near past, getting them to 7+ wins in the SEC and top 25 recruiting classes is an accomplishment. No wonder they're fighting so hard to keep him there. If he can just get over that annual Tennessee hump...

it's the one that gets the most pub, therefore it's the only one that matters

Down to 12th, but still a good class. Average recruiting ranking is also high with room for a couple more...

The composite rankings:

2. Bama 306
4. LSU 298

5. UGA 282
6. A&M 277

7. Auburn 267
8. UF 264

16. UT 247
17. USCe 246

25. State 217

If A&M signs Evans, we might overtake UGA

Florida did really well on the lines of scrimmage and at DB. However, the staff gets a big fat F for the skill positions. Zero RBs and one of our only WR commits didn't sign today and everyone knows will fail to qualify.

Unless they're only signing 17 players, there's no chance of that.

When compared to the rest of the sec it's a mediocre class.

Is what it is.

Meh

Now do it by average per player rating.

Then share how many signees are in a class.

The metric you're attempting to push to bolster A&M is understandable, but arbitrary and inconsequential in the overall scheme of things.

Signing 25 gives you a higher number than signing 19, or 21, of course.

Per player average is more important.

Also, sooner or later recruiting services are going to have to figure out a way to rate kickers. Kickers have become as much a part of the game .... offense, defense, special teams. It's past time to start rating kickers appropriately.

You can sign the #1 punter and #1 kicker in the nation and be penalized on your ratings.

False. The difference in a 12th ranked class and 5-7 ranked class are going to be negligible if scouting, coaching and development are equal and can be surpassed with better scouting, coaching and development. It is what it is. Clemson started kicking people’s arse before their recruiting shot up to top 5 levels.

Avg rating is actually the worst way to look at it. If you want want to consider avg rating of your class vs another teams you can only compare your guys vs the other teams top however many guys you have.

You have to get credit for everyone.
