I saw the rules after they were changed last year, and then I saw something about people getting around them. They are obviously still going to allow early enrollees, so I assume that would be one of the ways to save spots for next year, but I could be totally wrong.
It's all so convoluted, I think I won't fully understand until next year when the coaches (Saban) start exposing loopholes.

Maybe that just means saving room under the 85.
This. I'm about 90% sure no back counting next year, so we have what, 15 seniors next year. If we sign 20 this year and nobody leaves early, we will be able to sign 15 next year and not be over 85. Kind of forcing us to oversign to keep stability of numbers going forward. It's bullshite.

My understanding, until proven otherwise, is:
Hard 25 limit on LOI's this year, but still allowed to back count EE's (assuming the school enrolled fewer than 25 last fall).
Next year, hard 25 limit on LOI's, allowed to have EE's, but no back counting regardless of how many sign this year.

So the EE's will count toward the new class year or the previous class year?

This was my understanding. So moving forth, if you have a small class, it helps the 85 number but you are SOL with regard to the 25 number if you want to make up for the small class the next year.

All of this shite is confusing. The SEC should have just let teams over sign IMO.

The 25 rule is stupid. They should be able to count back. However, you can't sign more recruits than would put you at 85.

then the wording needs to be changed... technically an EE doens't have to sign a Letter of Intent -- then just enroll in school.

ETA: I don't think coaches would support it because they need the summer to weed out academic casualties.

I agree. There are a few rules I would tweak. I think if a team cuts you, the player should be able to go anywhere he wants without waiting a year, if they sign an LOI.
I'm also not opposed to offering a "cut player" scholarship if a player decides he wants to stay at that school and forfeit his eligibility.
That said, most players know that scholarships are good for a year, and most people know that the offer isn't firm until the LOI is signed.

I thought they still signed the LOI after they enrolled.

no... they everyone signs scholarship papers when they get to school... a Letter of Intent is not scholarship papers.
Technically, you don't HAVE to sign an LOI... you can just enroll come fall/summer... but once you sign the LOI you're bound to that school.

When they show the fax girl on the Alabama website, they always used to say if they got one of the Early Enrollee's LOI's... like if he'd stopped by the athletic office. That's why I thought that.

probably not an LOI, but I could be wrong on that... I do know for a fact you don't have to sign an LOI.
I believe this is the loop hole people are talking about this year, although I haven't invested a lot of time in it, as Auburn isn't in any danger of over-signing for the 2012 class.

Three-star defensive back Jordan Moore has picked up offers from Florida and USC in the last 24 hours. He has not made a final decision but I still consider Auburn to be in good shape. He will announce after the Atlanta Hawks game tonight and we'll have plenty of updates here

I don't think we can compete with the DGB drama in the Arky thread. But it's quality over quantity, IMO.
