Outliers happen. On the whole though, how many first rounders aren't 4 or 5 star recruits?

its not even really an outlier. Recruiting rankings/Stars are about probability. And its a fact, the more stars, the higher the probability that they will do great in college, which in turn usually means higher draft pick

So the unanimous #1 overall rated HS player just went #1 overall in the NFL draft 3 years later and youre using this as proof that rankings dont matter?

No, it's a cherry picked stat and one that shows the recruiting services got it EXACTLY correct no less. 46% of the first round was made up of 4/5 stars when they only make up 10% of high school recruits.

4/5 stars are 10 times more likely to be drafted in the first round than a 3 star or lower.

Going by Rivals, there are 2000+ two stars, 1,200-1,500 three stars, 320-340 four stars, and 30-40 five stars. A five star is much more probable to be a high draft pick than four star. A four star is much more probable to be a higher draft pick than a three star. A three star is much more probable to be a high draft pick than a two star.

Two star means you haven't been scouted by the service (all they know is your name). Every un-scouted player is a 2 star. It's the default designation the services use. Services can't rate every recruit out there and usually won't rate a recruit unless he's got big time offers.

Tennessee fans tried to act like stars didn't matter when Dooley was here, too.
