UGA fans would you guys prefer to have Trevor Lawrence or Justin Fields? Seems like JF’s skill set fits better at Clemson & TL’s set fits better at UGA.

I follow HS ball closely & I don’t remember hearing JF before his senior year, but I knew of TL midway through his freshman year of HS.

Either way hope both of them do well. It’s about time UGA started stockpiling homegrown QBs again.

Fields, just as good at passing, better at running.

It’s been two decades since Tennessee’s program was at the level that Georgia and Clemson are currently at. Don’t think you can put all the blame on Butch

I'd say that fields is better at running. I've never seen Lawrence lower his shoulder at the goal line.

That said, I don't know how much I want fields attempting to run over defenders on the goalline in the SEC.

Lawrence grew up a Tennessee fan and his parents are alums. I’m pretty sure he was committed there at one point.

Losing him was similar to LSU losing Dylan Moses.

How do you figure this?

Also if it were me I would take fields personally. Lawrence is great but Fields looks like he could be special.

I highly doubt Fields and Fromm finish their career at UGA. I’ll be interested to see what happens with them.

I'm glad we have Fields. He adds the extra dimension with his legs that Fromm doesn't quite have (he's a decent runner but not super fast).

The best argument for having 2 opposing skill sets at QB is the national championship game. Jalen wasn't able to do anything against the UGA defense being too one dimensional, but Tua with his ability to run and pass was much harder to defend and changed the complexion of the game. I'd rather have the option to switch things up in that way as needed instead of having 2 pure pocket passers, even as good as Lawrence seems to be.

False, its been 2 years. Tennessee was the clear favorite to win the East in 2016 and make a run for the SEC title. Every football analysis had them right behind Bama.

Lawrence will be a great QB, but we are very happy to have Fields. We (our coaching staff) wants to add a dimension to the offense, so we like. We have heard a lot of good things bout Fields coming out of the summer practices.

I think he (Fields) was not highly ranked until he blew up in his senior year. Not sure why, but from what we are hearing he is legit.

I think he means that Clemson has utilized a running/mobile QB in Deshaun Watson, and we haven't really outside of DJ Shockley.

It's a point.

I think Lawrence might be a tick better passer and Fields is more mobile. They'll both be great QB's, though. Only time will tell which one turns out to be better.

Butch had a successful coaching record before coming to UT. And UT was bad before Butch, which is why there was a job opening.

UT’s problems go way deeper than Butch.

Fields all day. They are both top notch, elite passing QBs so it's impossible to go wrong with either one. But fields obviously adds another dimension that TL simply doesn't. And at UGA specifically it's not like we've been lacking with good passing drop back QBs lately. Eason, Murray, Stafford, Greene, etc. But we haven't had a legit run threat back there since Shockley and at this point I'm dying to see that dynamic in this offense.

He’s far more mobile and he has elite arm strength, but he’s not quite the passer that Lawrence is. Lawrence is out of this damn world in terms of arm talent. If this was a Bobo/Richt offense, I’d say Lawrence. I like Fields’ ability to both hit the deep ball while also being able to make a big play out of nothing, if the receivers are well covered. I’ll take Fields due to his ability to improvise, but I think both QBs are going to be big time players.

Lawrence is pretty lanky so he may be able to get out of some jams with his legs. Not sure on how Clems oline is quality wise. And Fields isn't just a pair of legs. He can pass. Honestly, I want him to be a passer 1st and run only if needed. Fromm has proven to have a little movement as well. We don't need anymore hurt QBs considering our depth.

Fields beat out Trevor Lawrence at Elite 11 camp which only grades passing.

This is the problem with all the message board analysis. My kids go to Harrison HS and I had front row seat to the Justin Fields show. This kid is not only smarter than Trevor Lawrence (29 ACT) but he is better pure passer as well.

The term “running QB” with Fields does him a disservice. Fields is NFL Caliber even without his great wheels.

Which is great in a camp setting. real games are totally different than camp. Eason was great at camps, but had troubles in real games. Some of those problems were caused by our OLine. Some of those problems were caused by poor decision making skills. Some problems due to various other things. I guess my point is that camp performance can be drastically different than a real game.

ACT scores and football acumen can be totally different things, too. I can point out a ton of players who scored very high on the Wunderlich that did not make it on the football field, and kid who scored poorly on the Wunderlich that had great careers.

I agrre, and I think you misunderstood me. I never said Lawrence was the better QB. I said his arm might be just a tick better. By that I mean just a little bit better. Add in Fields running ability and all other intangibles I am thrilled to have Fields. I think all of us are very happy to have him.

Just because somebody doesn't say he is a future HOFamer doesn't mean we don't think he is a great player. And by the way....he might be a future HOFamer. I just don't know that right now. He might also be a better passer. But we don't know that right now either.
