Does Georgia Tech recruit now?

Yesterday saw a DL decommitted from UGA (apparently because UGA is getting some higher rated). Favorite for him was GT.
Then today GT landed a commit from a 5 star OLine
I’ve never heard Georgia Tech and recruiting mentioned in the same sentence before this.
(SEC related because they recruit from the same pool of players)

He's ranked as 5-star on one site.
He's as low as #105 on another.
Good pickup for them though.

Ahh. Well I just passingly saw a tweet about it.
I’m guessing On3? They typically rank everyone pretty differently than the other sites

5* on On3, then not even a top 100 player anywhere else.

Industry ranking #29 national, #2 IOL. That’s pretty good

105 is still a very good player, better than what Tech has been getting.
The gap between 15-20 and players much lower than that usually isn't that large. In most classes there are 10-15 truly different guys consistently around the top, then a bunch of somewhat interchangeable guys from there to somewhere in the 150 range.

NIL and having a good staff has created this. Brent Key was one of the best coaches Saban had at Bama. Also, NIL money is evening the playing field. Getting paid at Tech and playing for an elite OL coach who is your head coach is better than riding the pine for a year or two someplace else.
Coaches won't be able to ride the talent into so-called elite status anymore. You have to really be able to coach and develop players as well as be able to fill roster holes with a proper player personnel department within your football program.

UGA fans saying the recruit is being processed to make room for Justus Terry and the other 5-star DL E.Griffin.

Even if true, in the past these guys wouldn't be going to Tech.

Does that mean Georgia Tech is going back to the SEC in the near future?

I'm sure there were other factors. I mean, we definitely would have taken him and been happy. He'll be a good pickup for GT.
I'm not sure how hard we were going for the OT. He is pretty light at about 265 or 270. We like bigger Olinemen. My guess is he must have great hands and footwork.
The new GT coach is definitely upping their game.

Big pickup for GT. On the 247 composite he is rated at .9817 and the 37th player in the country. #5 OT.
In the past, GT ran that triple option offense and recruited more niche players to fit their scheme. Lighter linemen, I think.

If they are, they are wrong. Georgia would have been glad to take Garrett. We do feel like we will get Terry and Griffin, but they would not have affected us taking Garrett. That said, if we get Terry and Griffin we can afford to lose Garrett.

And yet
Billy gaypier with 2 OL coaches can’t get a single 5 star OL to commit

Looks like Rivals is going to correct that mistake tomorrow.
Fact or Fiction: Michael Carroll will be Alabama's biggest rankings riser
quote:
Friedman: FACT. Michael Carroll’s development year over year is very encouraging and his most recent performance at the Rivals Five-Star in Jacksonville answered a lot of questions. Officially measuring in at 6-foot-6 and 316 pounds with 34-inch arms, Carroll possesses the physical and athletic traits to play tackle or guard at the next level. He has plenty of experience at guard, too. That versatility should help him in the rankings updated.
Of course, Carroll isn’t the only potential riser in Alabama’s recruiting class. Quarterback Keelon Russell has had a fantastic offseason thus far. Offensive tackle Jackson Lloyd is under the microscope as well. Carroll, however, has a chance to be the biggest riser of the bunch.
Knowlton: FACT. During the Rivals Five-Star, Carroll dominated against the best defensive line competition he's faced in his prep career. Carroll continues to add mass to his already extremely impressive 6-foot-6, 300-pound frame and plays with a ton of athleticism that should project him as a versatile fit at either guard or tackle in Alabama's offensive line when he reaches the collegiate level.
There's no doubt Carroll has home-run potential and has only added to his game this offseason. While several Crimson Tide commits should get a bump – including Keelon Russell who could potentially reach five-star status – Carroll will likely see the biggest rise from his current position at No. 185.

Also, GT OL commit Damola Ajiduhan was high on UGA’s board. That one may be the biggest surprise

Michael Carroll is now ranked #30 overall on Rivals.

That graphic has Georgia in the top 4, but I think we dropped out awhile ago.
He's an excellent player, but we won't meet his NIL demands.
