I agree. I'm not making the argument Strong will suck
Sorry these positions were carried over from some posts in the thread a few days ago where some of your brethren were harping on Strong as not a good hire or something of that sort.
My position the whole thread has been that with the hiring of Strong, as a defensive player I would choose Texas for sure. I would probably choose Aggie as an offensive player right now.
However if texas comes in and shows some hard nosed football they will be able to become the top dog in the state pretty quickly due to their history. That is barring aggie winning an sec or national title in the next couple years.

Your 2012 class was ranked 16th. The 2013 class was ranked 9th. Not a huge leap, especially not big enough to use as evidence for sustained success in the future.
And what is our current class ranked?
All we can go on is what has transpired since. It's not a large sample size, so I don't know what the hell else you want. But you can't deny momentum, which we currently have. And that is a promising sign for sustained success.

The 2012 Arkansas class was ranked 28th. A year later after the JLS debacle, our class was ranked 23rd. I guess the success of John L. Smith was the catalyst for our improved recruiting.
Texas A&M is not Arkansas.

almost halfing the ranking isn't "a huge leap"?
"Halfing" the ranking huh?
So I guess jumping from #2 to #1 is considered a huge leap too? This is why there are aggy jokes.

Their strongest defensive recruit flipped to us since Strong was hired.

It would typically take a major commitment like a high four or five star to jump from two to one so yeah that's probably a big leap

This right here is the reason the current landscape in Texas is different. Texas no longer controls their own destiny. A&M has to fail for the longhorns to take back control, which of course is entirely plausible but is absolutely a dramatic shift from just 5 years ago.

You just tried to equate moving from 16th to inside the top 10 in recruiting classes to puttering about in the 20s
Nice sail.

I will say this: I don't think Texas wins more than 9 games next year. 10 would be a huge success. In the thick of Mack's run, 10 wins was a formality. But I have tempered my expectations with reality and we are starting over with a new philosophy. We have a ton of talent and I like our hire but it will likely take time.
It is with that same realistic attitude that I say I do not believe A&M's future is half as bright as many of the sunshine-pumping Corp dorks spout on here. I agree that their move to the SEC was a boon for A&M, but their unrealistic expectations also survived the move.
The title of this thread was
"As a recruit... Texas or Texas A&M?"
In my opinion, unless you truly think a post-Manziel aggy football team is going to win something big in the SEC, I would go with the flagship. Plus, and I haven't addressed this yet, College Station is a total shithole.

Actually our current class is in the top 10. You must not keep up with recruiting very well.

If it was a great hire and you have a ton of talent why would it take time?

Key word, I. And see previous comment about relationships, etc. being important in recruiting. You've got to have some time to build momentum.
Also, I anticipate Texas improving over the next couple years. A&M is in a tougher division in a tougher conference where improvement is not guaranteed even with talented teams. And Texas has the built in advantage of being Texas with a recent title. So with commensurate levels of success, texas will likely become the favorite in state team.
