Him being able to play the 3 would be the ideal scenario. I don't think he'll be a lottery pick, but I think he'll contribute immediately and be a 10-13 PPG guy.

Oh yea I agree and I hope that im wrong I wish that he was that good but it just seems that he has some crazy expectations. I wish we couldve saw him play in the McDonalds All American game.

I think he could be a lottery pick. He has a pretty impressive wingspan and he can jump out of the gym. It really just depends on how committed he is to rebounding and working on his jumper.

He's a 2 or 3 year player. Really raw. I could see him going after 1 year if he got some bad advice though.

He may leave early but he wont be a lottery pick. Athletic wing men are everywhere.

Which is why I qualified my statement with "it really just depends on how committed he is to rebounding and working on his jumper."

Athletic wings are a dime a dozen. Athletic wings who are good rebounders and shooters are not.

I saw some film of Eblen as a senior in high school and right then said no fricking way he's a future lottery pick.

Pollard has that sort of potential though.

Free article from Rivals says that they expect him to have a decision by the middle of next week.

The one attribute that Pollard has that makes him so valuable to UA is that he can play the 3 but he can also guard a 4. If he came to UA he would start out as Bama's best post defender. He is far more athletic than Engstrom, Gueye or Jacobs.

Tragically, he would probably be Bama's best offensive post player as well although Jacobs is at least competent in that role.

its not tragic if he is the best post player offensively and defensively. nothing is tragic about bringing in better talent. ask kentucky fans if anthony davis being their best post player was tragic.

No way he better than Jacobs on the post. Say what you want about Jacobs but thats the one thing that kid has is a pretty good post offensive game. That hook is lethal when its on.

Alabama is not Kentucky. Our roster does not roll over each year. It is tragic that after being here for three years, a true freshman could be your best low post defender and low post scoring threat. That doesn't say much for the program that you are building. That said, I would love to get Pollard and another, larger post player.

Pollard is no Anthony Davis, but he could mature in to a Michael Kidd Gilchrist. He might have to stay more than two years to be a lottery pick, but he is athletic and has great measurables. Will have to see how he can be developed if he signs. He either needs to grow or develop a mid-range game if he wants to be a lottery pick.

Is it really ashame? I mean any kid can come out of high school and be the best on your team at anything so what are you saying? CAG has been hear for 3 years but has really only had 2 recruiting classes. Im happy where our team is with the way we were when MG was here. Just look at the way Mitchell and Green acted at times this year. Kind of hard to recruit when you have to worry about how your upperclassman are acting.

not true. this year there is a lot of roll over, especially in terms of low post defending and low post scoring. if pollard had came in last year, you wouldnt have said that he was a better low post player than Green. Mitchell would have been considered a better low post player than Pollard coming in also, had he not left the team.

sure, alabama's roster doesnt roll over to the same extent as kentucky's. nobody's does. but roster turnover is still the nature of today's college game. its not neccessarily a bad thing that your incoming players are already more polished than the guys already in school.

Pollard Article on BOL

quote:

De Kalb (Miss.) Kemper County five-star forward Devonta Pollard is one of the top uncommitted basketball prospects in the nation and is in the process of taking a few final visits with the signing period approaching. The 6-foot-8, 205-pounder is one step closer to a decision after taking an official visit to Alabama over the weekend.

“I wouldn’t say there was anything in particular that stood out to me, but the visit itself stood out,” said Pollard. “It was a great visit. I had a good time. I hung out with the guys a lot. I was with Levi Randolph.”

Pollard spent much of his time on campus with head coach Anthony Grant, assistant Dan Hipsher, and other members of the Alabama staff, who stressed how the McDonald’s All-American would fit into the Tide’s style of play.

“Basically, Coach Grant was expressing the point of how my style of play compares to their style of play and how I would be a good fit with them based off how I play and what I’m comfortable doing. The up-tempo game is what I’m comfortable playing and I feel like I have a better feel for the game when I’m playing up-tempo.

“My relationship with Coach Hip is good- I have a good relationship with everybody on the staff. He was telling me the same type of things like how he sees me fitting in with how they play.”

The Magnolia State native was even able to meet head football coach Nick Saban.

“I was good to meet Nick Saban,” he said. “It wasn’t too much really, we just shook hands.”

Pollard has narrowed his choices to Alabama, Georgetown, Missouri, and Texas and claims that there’s no current separation between the four.

“It’s still those final four. I would say Alabama still stands where they stood before the visit. I wouldn’t say any school is standing out more than the others. All those are equal right now.”

A trip to Georgetown is next for Pollard and a decision should be forthcoming after he sits down and discusses his options with his mother.

“These four schools have what I’m looking for and that’s why they’re the last four. I believe that when I sit down and talk with my mom, it’s going to be where I feel comfortable and where do I feel like I’m at home.

“I’m going to do the announcement live. I’m not sure how exactly I’m going to have it set up yet, whether it will be at home or at school, but I know it’s going to be on TV.”
