If we could hit open shots our offense would be ok

Either one of those kids would be good for us to have. Harris with his size would be good but i really would love to have Sina shooting for us.

No one wants him gone. I like Grant. He's going to consistently bring in talent and preach defense. I just don't think he is a very gifted offensive mind. Our roster just isn't geared towards the style we were playing. If you can't shoot, methodical half court offense is poison. Especially when you have a bunch of athletic drivers like Releford, Lacey, Randolph, and Steele. We should be running and attacking the basket at all times next season unless we make a dramatic improvement in our outside shooting this summer.

I just dont get what you guys are saying. Its easy to say we should be running but most of the time the only way you are running is if you are getting turnovers and fastbreaks. Im lost.

You can run off of made baskets. Just have Engstrom, or whichever post player is in the game at the time, immediately inbound the ball to one of the guards and get moving. Right now the other team is down the floor and getting set in their defense by the time Releford gets across midcourt. Once we allow them to get set in their defense, we are in trouble. Confusing them and making them play on their heels is what we want.

Just any penetration would be nice. Also, our shooters regress. Its not that they are bad....they've gotten worse. It honest to God seems like we don't practice shooting. No one wants Grant gone, but our offense is terrible

Grant looks again to N.J. for top prospect
March, 27, 2012

By Greg Ostendorf
The University of Alabama basketball staff has reached into the state of New Jersey once before to grab former 2013 commitment Jaren Sina, and its now drawing interest from another top prospect from the area, 6-foot-8 playmaker Tyler Roberson.
Roberson, an ESPNU Super 60 recruit, has more than 10 scholarship offers from programs across the country, but he said he’s been receiving the most interest recently from Alabama, Florida and Rutgers.
With the Crimson Tide, head coach Anthony Grant and his staff first took note of Roberson’s skills over the summer on the AAU circuit, and they haven’t stopped recruiting him since.
“Over the summer, they started recruiting me, and it seems like ever since then they’ve just started to become more and more interested in me,” Roberson said. “Hopefully, since I talk to them so much, I can take a visit.”
Alabama’s presence in New Jersey may come to as a surprise to many, but not to Roberson. He understands that Grant is trying to find the right fits for the Tide program, no matter where that may take him.
“It didn’t really surprise me too much because (Grant) told me he liked my game and he thinks I could fit in,” Roberson said. “It made me feel like I could fit in with their program.
“Basically, he just tells me about the school and how if I go and see the campus, I’ll fall in love with it. It’s a good school academically. He tells me if I were to go there, what I would do and how I would help the team out.”
Since his days as head coach at VCU, Grant has been known to get taller, more athletic players, who can do a variety of things, and Roberson fits that bill. At 6-foot-8, he has the combination of size, athleticism and talent to do just about anything.
“I think the best part of my game is my versatility,” Roberson said. “I can post up or take somebody on the wing, and I like to get up and down. So I think I’ll fit into a program that likes to do those things.”
Alabama also remains as one of the top suitors for Sina, the 2013 point guard from New Jersey who decommitted from the Tide in September. With Roberson and Sina, UA has a chance to land two top-60 players from New Jersey.
The two discussed the possibility of playing at Alabama when they faced each other last summer.

Thanks BUC.
It would be killer if we could land these 2.

That Tyler Robinson has some major offers hopefully 2013 recruiting isnt anything like 2012 with the misses we had.

I have seen some people think that since Moultrie is declaring for the draft, it puts us in a showdown with Georgetown to land Pollard mainly because with everyone leaving State that would put Pollard in the position to carry the team on his own without a good supporting cast. Robot and Bryant, thoughts?

I just dont think we get Pollard. These Miss kids just hold it off to the end and stay in state hope im wrong though

If its down to us and Gtown I think we get him. They have two starters returning from their front court and we have nothing. Plus we are about 12 hours closer and mom wants him to stay close to home.

In that case I think its going to come down to who state hires and when they hire him.

Well I hope mom wins out....

I really think it's between us and MSU and it'll come down to how comfortable he is with whomever MSU hires. I don't think he wants to be further than a few hours from home. He'd be stepping into a better position at Alabama IMO, but it's hard to get kids to leave Mississippi.

Who wants him gone? People want our offensive philosophy changed. That wouldn't be too drastic. It would involve possibly bringing in a new assistant. That's about as drastic as it would be.
I don't want Grant gone. I respect that he motivates kids to play hard and to defend. But unless there is significant offensive improvement, he will not be able to recruit the kind of player he needs to be successful at Alabama.
Without Green, this team will struggle even more to score. If Mitchell comes back, this team will have to play up tempo to succeed.
High level recruits don't commit to a school to play defense. Bama has to change its offensive identity if it wishes to compete on an elite level.
Releford has to improve his outside shot. If he was an effective outside shooter, he would be unguardable. The same could be said for Lacy, Randolph and Cooper.
Those guys are great athletes that can score in the open court. Great defense leads to open court opportunities. Bama has to push the tempo this next year in order to succeed.
To me the biggest deficiency in this year's offense was Bama's inability to attack the zone. You have to get the ball to the middle of the zone to properly attack it. Then you can pass down low or back out. You don't beat a zone by perimeter passing but rather by going inside out. Bama frequently went long stretches without ever getting the ball to the middle of the zone.
While Bama was good on defense they can still improve. Jacobs is a defensive liability and our big men have to become better post defenders. If they don't, Bama will have a long year next season.

IDK we did well without Green when he was gone. These younger guys stepped up. Hopefully they will improve and hopefully Gueye gets healthy and in shape.
