Are we? I’ve heard for months that we weren’t.

He said we were still recruiting him heavily.
Our rivals site believes we are as well.

UGA recruited Jarrett and Burton very hard and will continue to do so until signing day. LSU is VERY hard to beat for receivers they want, and while we have started making some headway of late, the fact is that we have almost no history to sell at receiver.

Should we be worried? He seems like one of our most solid commits.

We don't? LINK
Also, we aren't recruiting Jarrett at all anymore, and only keeping a marginal amount of contact with Burton. On the heels of the Fields and Ford situations last season, we turned Burton down due to concerns over him being a transfer portal risk.
As for Jarrett, he was a silent commitment, pooped on our staff when he went public to LSU, has been trying to reopen those lines with UGA but our staff is having none of it due to him burning that bridge already.
Jarrett has zero chance of being in this class for UGA. Burton would have to minimize the concerns we have about him combined with UGA losing a current commit -- neither of which are likely to happen.

That just isn’t true. We’d take either in a heart beat.

No, we wouldn't. I'm sorry but you're misinformed bro.

In the spirit of having a mature discussion, can UGA really afford to turn Jarret away? I mean, based on my understanding of your current roster, WR might be the team's biggest weakness. In addition to that, your recruiting class features one 4* and two 3* WRs. While 3* players often become stars, there is a dramatically higher chance that Jarret becomes a great player than your other commits. It just seems like you guys desperately need an elite talent like Jarret. Is he really that much of a headache?

We can definitely afford to turn him away. WR might be the least experienced position on our roster, but the cupboard is by no means bare. The two most talented players might be true freshmen 5* Pickens, who has a good chance to be the best WR to come out of the 2019 cycle, and Blalock who only lost his 5* because he shut his commitment down early and didn't do the camps for the recruiting sites -- meaning he didn't generate clicks for them.
Early reports are that both of those guys are impressing and should see snaps early. But even beyond those guys D. Robertson is primed for a breakout after transferring back home from Cal and learning how to be an SEC WR last season.
There is size in Landers, Bush, and the grad transfer Cager who are all 6'5". K. Jackson got experience at the slot WR last season as a true freshman. Simmons is a senior outside WR with legit 4.3 speed.
So while we lost experience, their is a boatload of talent at the position just waiting on their chance.
Regarding the recruiting class. The staff all along wanted two outside WRs and a speedy slot WR type. For outside we landed our top two targets in Rosemy and Robinson. Jarrett was our top target at slot WR and we took Wren as plan B there.
Rosemy is a top 5 WR in this cycle, possibly higher.
The so called 3 star Justin Robinson who plays at a 1A school has been identified by our staff as a high priority target because they feel he has ridiculous potential. He's not someone we would push out of the class for any other WR. I will trust our staff's evaluation of him over these ranking websites.
And Corey Wren is our plan B at slot WR after Jarrett pulled his shenanigans. He's raw, needs development because he plays QB for a triple option run heavy high school offense, but he's got the one thing you can't teach -- elite speed. Might be the fastest guy in this class, but easily in the top 3. Plus the good thing about his situation is because he knows he needs development, he's less of a portal risk due to having to sit behind all the depth we have at WR ahead of him. And he'll probably get on special teams very early as a possible returner. As said, he was our plan B behind Jarrett, and since Jarrett has burned his bridge to UGA...
You also have to remember we are heavily pushing for at least two of the three elite TE prospects this cycle in A. Gilbert, D. Washington, and T. Johnson. We're going to be throwing the ball more to our TE's this year to try and make that happen. All 3 of those guys are unique and not often seen talents at the TE spot. It's similar to Julio and AJ Green being in the same WR class when they were recruited. You just don't see that kind of individual talent come around at a position often, much less multiple guys in the same class.

Fair enough. What are LSU's chances of keeping him in your opinion?
Posted on 7/14/19 at 8:19 pm to ConeHawk
No idea about that, I just know he will NOT be coming to UGA.
Posted on 7/15/19 at 12:41 am to Bodhii
You are legitimately delusional if you think any school would turn down a 5* WR because he “burned a bridge” or whatever bullshite you’re spewing.
Posted on 7/15/19 at 1:04 am to Bodhii
Jeez. You put all this effort into showing you know so much about recruiting and your masterful conclusion is....
I don’t fricking know, he just won’t be coming here?
Well frick man, I could have told you that.
You’re waffling. There is zero chance they turned down Burton or Jarrett if they said they wanted to commit. Based on your timeline they would have had spots if they did it back then.

The great and powerful bodhii hath proclaimed that Rakim Jarrett ain't welcome at UGA.

Interesting hill he is choosing to die on here...

Unlike some posters here, I won't generalize his posts to other UGA fans.

Posted on 7/17/19 at 2:03 am to Bodhii
I’ve heard OSU fans say they turned down Rakim
I’ve heard Bama fans say they don’t want boutte
And now I’ve heard a UGA fan say they turned down burton due to him being a “transfer portal risk”
Hahah
Delusional

You’ve heard one UGA fan say that, and he is talking out of his arse.

I’ve heard others with legit connections say the same thing about Burton.
