When I drive to Sedona, I rent a car. The rental, hotel and gas are half the price of flying 5 people out. You also can see national parks and some of my best conversations occurred on road trips.
After reading this thread, I can see why we carry so much consumer debt in this county. A lot of you are glib about hundreds of dollars.
Look dude... we get it. You think that 22 hours of driving in a weekend is a selling point.
I think you're generally a pretty solid poster, and appreciate getting some perspective of what you guys are hearing on the west coast.
This is just a weird as shite hill to die on. We're not talking about flying 5 people... we're talking about flying 1-2 depending on whether both parents can make the trip (and/or if they're visiting more than one kid in a weekend).
How many games did the Sewell family attend in Eugene last year? How about for their other two sons at Nevada and Utah?
You're touting PDX as a way of saving a whole ton of money, except the flight there still looks to be 160-300, coupled with now adding a similar drive time from PDX to Eugene as ATL to Athens. At that point, you're not really saving any time over ATL, and the flight appears to be at best $100 cheaper.
If we assume that the family might make it to 2-3 games/kid we're talking about $600 differential per year... give or take using some rough math.

Also, are they in St George or SLC? Someone said SLC and I rolled with it but if my memory serves right, it’s St George.
Anyway, I don’t think Cristobal and staff are selling a drive. The family doesn’t need that to be explained to them.
Also, if they’re in St George, it puts them very close to any south division opponent.
If y’all know any St George Mormons I can fill you in.

His parents might prefer watching him play on their big screen TV at home. NFL scouts will check him out regardless of where he plays. He'll be coached well at both schools. A lot of detailed debate in this thread about factors that might not even matter much to him or his parents.
This... All I've been getting at is that "distance" really isn't as much of a factor as one might expect with a typical west coast recruitment.

I believe you're right about St George... but you've got that other part wrong.

From what I can tell, you said it, I rolled with it... But it's all good.

Someone said his hometown is 800 miles away and I assumed SLC because that’s 800 not fricking St George.

Anyway, it should be an interesting recruitment. St George to Athens...fricking, eh.

I have driven that trip no less than 5x. Driven to St George, too. That’s closer to a 1,000 miles off the top of my head. It’s a terrible trip too.

Damn...good thing I had PTO and was sick. I wasted 2 hours talking about SLC to Eugene.
At least I dragged some of y’all down that Asperberger’s rabbit hole.

Live and let live is not a St George, Utah mantra, bro.
I am dying here.

Its a personal mantra. Really sucks to see frugal people save up for retirement, finally retire, and than get that cancer diagnosis a week later.

Leaving a legacy is important to me. I am a penny pincher. I can be penny wise pound foolish though.

The two brothers both went to Nevada in Reno. One transferred to Utah after becoming a starter and showing he was PAC 12 quality. Nephi was also home sick. Penei was Bama vs Oregon but he was a blue chip recruit. Those schools all have a lot of polys.
I like my crow well done. Thank you sir.

I'm in "I'll believe it when I see it" mode, but more than a few very quality posters and UGA insiders seem to think that 1) he'll likely play in the SEC and not on the west coast and 2) that the dawgs are in a good position as of this moment... Like every other recruitment... it's still only August and I'm not naive enough to think that means we'll definitely get his signature even IF it's 100% accurate. Just sharing that the "Oregon lock" stuff that I'd been hearing closer to the Opening finals is at least softening a bit.
Athens has a 2018 feel to it right now. Just a lot of good stuff from people in the know on Sewell, Evans, Burch, Washington, SVP, etc.

I am not dismissing Georgia's shot here. However, if you think that distance is the only reason, you're wrong.
I am sure your staff has a good relationship too. However, the Sewell family knows more about our staff.
At the end of the day, it's going to come down to distance or SEC. So, I am not exactly saying the thought process is wrong. Oregon needs to show out well against Auburn. If Oregon looks like dog shite on August 31, I will be concerned.
My point is Oregon has talent, they will get exposure and they have good coaching. We also have the best S&C program in the West and the UW is less of an obstacle than BAMA.
Worst news yet. Have to pull for Auburn to get this kid.

Don't really have a dawg in this fight, but I'd figure I'd share this article that was released this morning:
Take Two: Will SEC lose out to Noah Sewell's family ties to Oregon?
It's a free read from Rivals.

Wasn't really looking for it, but came across this quote:

Sewell's parents recently relocated from St. George to Orem
Looks like Orem is "SLC-ish" didn't look to see how far, but at least it wasn't a completely incorrect rabbit hole.

Lagoon in Farmington is a great amusement park. It's right outside of SLC.
In case anyone cares.
