“I’m going to Tennessee and it’s not because of (new head coach Jeremy) Pruitt, (Kevin) Sherrer or the coach who’s coming from Florida State (Charles Kelly),” Peterson said. “I’ve got two players (from Colquitt) who are there in (redshirt freshman defensive lineman) Ja’Quain Blakely and (freshman defensive back) Shawn Shamburger. Those are two people I can start something with and every time I play with them, I have a good time.”

Would also create a rift between Pruitt and Saban

Why would it now because when he left for FSU he took D Walker who we expected to be a part of our class and Saban hired him back. It is a business but yet many fans do not understand and why they become so emotional.

As long as Pruitt calls another game this coming Monday like he did against Clemson I could care less who he ends up with. If he shuts UGA down I might help him as a bagman.

Pruitt left after the 2012 season and burned a lot of bridges on the way out. But in the end, things were mended.

Plus, he said during the Sugar Bowl media day that things like recruiting were never going to become personal with friends at Alabama. It is his alma mater for Christ's sake.

Peterson has indicated several times that his relationship with Pruitt is very close and trusting (sort of like a father figure relationship) and is THE reason he flipped to being a heavy lean to UT. It seems silly for him to now say it's not the key reason.

Rush Propst is at Tennessee today interviewing for a position on staff, likely as the WR coach

Yeah, I alteady heard that.

Looks like JJ will be a Vol.

Great pickup!

ETA: I recently learned Propst has helped JJ's mom look after him. As much as I'd love to have JJ at Bama, it sounds like he truly feels he needs to be at UT with Pruitt, and potentially Propst too. Best wishes to JJ.

Is there a rule that says you can't hire a coach to get a recruit?

There is a NCAA rule against hiring high school coaches and recruiting prospects from their high school. That’s as long as they’re only hired to support staff. No rule against hiring them as an on-the-field coach.

Had this rule existed in 2007, Pruitt would have never been given a shot at coaching in college.

The rule is harsh too. Can’t hire a guy for support staff if you recruited a guy 2 years prior to the attempted hire. And can’t for recruit players at said school two years after a hire.
