Alabama reached into the state of Georgia and landed one of the Peach State's best.

Will Anderson committed to the Crimson Tide on Monday afternoon after a recent visit to Tuscaloosa.

The four-star weak-side defensive end from Hampton (Ga.) Dutchtown chose the Crimson Tide over Auburn, Georgia Tech and LSU, among others.

I was curious on this kid, we never offered or even seemed to recruit him to my knowledge. Seems odd for a top 10 guy in state (top 100 overall) at a position of need, but at this point I put nothing past our DL coach.

You know anything about his recruitment? Was he a Bama lock from early on, or was this an actual battle with LSU and Ga Tech (for serious)?

He had a tremendous camp at Alabama. That’s all I really know about him. And that he essentially replaced Derickey Wright who decommitted this morning.

Not to my knowledge. I was surprised when I read this morning that we were even in his final 3.

He was the best player at Bama's camp amongst a ton of 4 and 5* guys. Completely dominated.

This was a Bama/GT battle.

The GT staff, particularly Brent Key, has done a great job with Anderson making him a priority given he short time the new GT coaches have been on campus in relation to this class. To even be on his final 2 was an awesome effort by the GT staff.

Anderson cancelled his OV to Auburn this past weekend to give GT one last look.

But hard to turn down Saban! Good luck to him!

GT is recruiting at a much higher level these days.

I'm not certain if UGA is undervaluing him or Bama is overvaluing him. Just a strange situation.

I did read from an insider I trust that UGA feels better about who they are targeting than they did about Anderson.

That’s fine with me. I think Bama fans will trust Saban’s evaluations as well

Yeah, my comment was not in any way a reference to whether he's good or not, just was curious about the specific recruitment, as we just haven't seemed to even show an interest. Hadn't heard anything about him with LSU either.

Saw the GT comment above, so that's interesting. Bama/GT battle... That's not something I've heard in the last 15 years at least that I can recall...

One other thing was pointed out and I might buy this.

We both evaluated him the same in that there are higher rated players on both boards. UGA is in better with its higher rated guys than Bama is with its higher rated guys.

Could easily be neither. UGA has extremely limited space at OLB. Probably only taking 1 (Sherman)

That makes more sense... Didn't read his profile and since we hadn't been recruiting wasn't sure what he was projected as, and only saw the DE comment in the subject. We surely don't have a lot of space for LB. Likely one Outside, one Inside, with maybe one floating slot depending on best available, but seems like it's Pittmans if he can fill it.

OLB might be the deepest position on our team. So it's not a huge position of need especially with Nolan Smith, Brenton Cox, Adam Anderson

That’s fine. Y’all have fun with the higher rated guys. We’ll take the guys that dominate the 4 and 5 stars at our camp

And what you said is kinda stupid anyway. He dominated our camp and was a priority.

Jesus christ... No one said the kid isn't a good player. Are you telling us he's the absolute highest OLB on the board for Bama? There is not one player they would take above him at the position?

We also have grabbed guys who dominated 4/5* guys at our camps. See: Davis, Jordan 2018 cycle, Logue, Zion 2019 cycle, Baker, Deandre years prior...

The conversation happening here was about clarifying why the hell Georgia wasn't in the mix at all for a top 100 recruit nationally as far as I was concerned. Once it was pointed out he was an OLB, not DE as stated, it made more sense. We're not in a position to pass up on DL talent ... LB we can get away with a miss here or there.

Congrats on the pickup.
