No on campus stadium.

shite facilities.

Recruits (low income blacks) don't really fit in culturally with the student body (wealthy Jews and Italians from New York and New Jersey).

You can watch the same pattern occur every single year:

1. Sophomores and Juniors that have never visited a college or FBS stadium visit with their 7on7 team and are BLOWN AWAY. They immediately throw up the U and commit.

2. As they continue to be recruited by other schools, they find their way to other campuses, other facilities, other cities. Suddenly Coral Gables doesn't appear to be as special as it once was.

3. By the beginning of their senior year, all but the most diehard are considering other schools. Moms in particular tend to push them to attend schools in smaller cities where they can have more of a true college experience.

4. By the end of their senior year, it is Flip City. They will rarely land any last minute blue chips and always lose at least 2 or 3 they thought were solid.

Even that ignores how notoriously fickle SoFla recruits are, how dirty the recruiting gets, and the % of all Florida prospects that are transplants with family all across the country.

This is all true.

I think the hardest part for Miami is their alumni don’t care about football because they are all out-of-State students who didn’t grow up liking the U.

Miami is about as college football as San Francisco. Plus, what was looking like a tough row to hoe for Mullen recruiting wise, ended up being a blessing in disguise with the two instate competitors in distress.

There is very little alumni support (the fans are just locals, not alums), and in recent history under Shalala, etc the University itself has had an antagonistic relationship towards the Athletic Dept as a whole. A lot of the nerds down there think they're bigger than athletics - that football is something that should be left to state schools. Yes I'm serious, they think this despite having some of the most storied football and baseball programs in history.
