Seems like if Bruce wants a kid from Georgia, he gets them.

Nice get. I think y’all are neck and neck for Brown with Texas but I’ve heard Green might go overseas

No UGA coach is going to truly lock down the state but UGA could be so good if they find a coach that can do a respectable job at it.
In 2020 there are like 8 kids that are top 100 from the state.

Metro Atlanta is almost as talent rich in basketball as it is in football and baseball.

AAU basketball is a lot dirtier than football and baseball. No one is going to be able to get a large portion of the talent.

Of course not, hence the just do a respectable job at it. There is no reason that UGA can't do a better job at it as a whole compared to what they have the last 10 years or so.
In the last 10 years there have been 56 top 100 prospects from the state of UGA (I realize not all are originally from here). Georgia has obtained 3 of those players.
To really break it all down would be much more complicated than this but there is, once again, no reason that UGA can't do better than that. This is no disrespect to UGA, I just think they can do much better

There's no brand for UGA basketball locally there, that's the biggest problem. UGA has been so bad at basketball for so long, almost no kids grow up playing basketball even really entertain the idea of wanting to "Stay home and play for the big in-state school".
Think about this for a second, the last time UGA won a NCAAT game was 2002, the NCAA vacated that win
Someone just has to win there, Crean is off to a pretty meh start, couldnt get to the tournament with a #1 overall pick, part of that looks good landing a player of Edwards' talent, but on the other hand not going to help land much more of those. Crean cant have guys like Hammonds bailing on him for their last season if he's going to build anything there. He has to return his best player who isn't ready for pros at this stage. Next season could be even more disastrous than last one.

No doubt, there isn't much loyalty to the state compared to some other states and that doesn't change over a few years. They also have to compete with some very good programs that are close. I just still believe they should be doing better than 3 out of 56.
Maybe Crean can change that if he has enough time. But if that doesn't work out. I'd look at a coach with good ties to South and surrounding states. Forbes probably won't be around long enough but I think that would be a home run hire.

That is why I used to the top 100 starting point. UGA doesn't really need those top 20 one and done types, although it doesn't hurt.
They need guys in the 50-100 range who are going to stay most of their four years and help to build something. Chain some classes together like that (not easy) and you can start putting more natural pressure on the local kids to stay.

Crean just needs to recruit better than he is. Such a good class for him last year, although best player wil lalready be gone, but he's kind of following it up with a meh class. 3 JUCO guys none of which are really highly regarded. Only 1 Top 100 high school kid, but did get another 4-star as well.
LINK
1 of their JUCO kids doesnt even show up on this list of basically atop 150 JUCO players for 2020. That's how bad that pickup was
The big services do a pretty horrible job ranking JUCO kids. They (composite) have Starks (LINK /) for UGA at #5 in the nation in JUCO, and he's not even Top 150 on jucorecruiting's site.
Think the jucorecruiting site is just way off?

Starks, who is a guard, averaged 5 points on 34% shooting (15% from 3
) this past season for Eastern FL State College.
