Alabama and safety Javier Morton have parted ways.

Once the longest-tenured commitment in the Crimson Tide’s 2020 recruiting class, Morton officially announced a de-commitment on Wednesday, he tells BamaOnLine.

"I'm de-committed," Morton told BamaOnLine. "Really just been trying to focus on myself as far as my personal life. Really just working by myself. Alabama gave me the best opportunity. I always wanted to go to Alabama. Unfortunately things just didn't go as planned -- how we've seen the plan, how they've seen the plan, and how I've seen the plan. It's time to take a different route and re-open my recruitment."

quote:

If you’ve been following the Stone Mountain (Ga.) Stephenson product’s process, Wednesday’s news doesn’t come as much of a surprise as it’s been clear that UA and the four-star safety have been going separate ways for quite some time. Morton did not visit Tuscaloosa, nor any other programs, throughout this past summer.

"I'm looking where I'm needed and not wanted. I'm needed at LSU. I think they could use me at LSU ... Miami, South Carolina, Auburn, Georgia Tech ... just different schools I could go in and be a factor at."

Morton committed to the Tide in December of 2017. He was the first recruit on board in the UA’s 2020 class, which now sits with 22 members.

I agree. It almost sounds like he is repeating something a coach told him.

I was thinking the same thing. I mean, I don't know if you guys are losing a bunch after this year, but I would think a DB is probably not a huge need for LSU, or Florida for that matter.

Especially when we are short on remaining schollies.

I think he meant ""I'm looking where I'm needed and not (just) wanted. I'm needed at LSU. I think they could use me at LSU."

Iow, he's putting it out there that he's looking for a place he feels offers him a good opportunity to play and start early.

But I also get your point that he may not be a priority for LSU.

Maybe so. It does appear he got recruited over. He's been looking around for months. Bama lets guys in that situation stay publicly committed while their looking for a landing spot. Everyone paying attention to Bama recruiting knew it was just a matter of time until he would decommit. Best wishes for him.

He isn’t starting early at LSU. If getting in the field your freshman year as a DB is your desire LSU is t the school for you. They’ve already got great talent that will have at least a year on him in the system.

Perhaps not, but he seems to think (at this point) that he's needed at LSU. Regardless, he's a pretty good safety prospect, so he'll find a landing spot somwhere. Maybe Georgia Tech.

Naw. Talented youngsters can definitely find the field for LSU.

Our 2 deep at corner has 1 junior and 3 freshman for the two spots.

Surtain would have played a LOT for us last year.

Grant Delpit, Jamal Adams, Honey Badger, Erid Reid, etc got a lot of PT as freshmen.

Geoff Collins at GT has been working him for months. He has been on campus numerous times and GT Rivals guys have been waiting for him to decommit from Bama for a few weeks. They immediately future casted him to GT today. Chad Simmons with Rivals also said GT leads.

We have been waiting for him to publicly decommit for several months. GT would be a good spot for him. Opportunity to make an early impact

I will gladly take your 4 stars any days while Geoff works to get this thing up and running. Hoping he locks up metro Atlanta on the recruiting trail. Playing for the city seems to be resonating with the kids.

Watching/listening to Collins speak,he has Charisma that'll resonate with recruits. He's gonna recruit better than most think in the state of Georgia. He sound like he knows/believes in what he's talking about, not a dumbass .
