How does Alabama coming in second, only because we aren't willing to relent on the kid's demands to waste a scholarship, going to suddenly render our pipeline to the school irrelevant?
Because the talent behind Ish is meh at best. There is like one kid in Amite for the next 2-3 years that is a 3-4 star from what I understand. That could change quickly though with hidden gems and families moving in and out. But the chances are slim given the fact that Amite is pretty small..

But you said that getting him, even if he were to leave next year, is a win for LSU even with a second wasted scholarship for his brother, because it means the Amite connection becomes irrelevant. If you are saying that it'll become irrelevant because the talent at Amite is drying up, then whether or not Sopsher goes there is irrelevant because the talent will dry up regardless, and yet LSU would have wasted two scholarships in this class.
But if you are saying that it's better for LSU to waste two scholarships just so that Bama doesn't get a player, that seems like a case of cutting off the nose to spite the face.

Some of you are over complicating this. Winning cures all ails. Taking two 4 stars > 1 5 star + wasted schollie. Sopsher might not even finish a 5*. Some of this protecting your borders is stupid. Kids will go to LSU from LA if you’re a winner.

Perception in state is a big deal. That is important. What does that mean? It means on the local radio sports guys saying this:
1. O got one over on Saban. Strong pull by O.
2. Ish is a big get for the program.
3. Saban finally beat on the recruiting trail.
versus
1. Saban remains dominate on the football field and recruiting.
2. The bama/Amite recruiting pipeline remains in tact.
3. Despite LSU's strong recruiting class Coach O still cannot fend off Saban.
You see the difference.
This is not only a recruiting battle it's a PR battle. No one cares about the balance sheet. That is, in the big picture no one cares about the potentially lost scholarship. I should say no one cares except a few recruiticks.
The former perception excitement grows and money flows into TAF coffers.
The latter perception, well it's a lower excitement level.

It may look good on local radio but not sure about national perception when class is announced and ESPN and recruiting junkies bring it up on Tv. Not a good look for a university or college football really . Guess it is the way society is going these days with players , SJW, and the likes getting too much say. At least Keenan Allen was pushing for his brother who was actually a prospect

I for one do not want LSU take Rodney just to get Sopsher, but that's just me saying that as a fan and a person who follows recruiting. The coaches know much better than I, of course.

I’m with you,LSU has put themselves in a much better position now to attract legit recruits without sacrificing schollies

I think it also reinforces this type of "bargaining" by prospects. It could become a real shitshow down the road when several top instate kids start making outrageous demands for their signatures.

Kinda my way of thinking. Hell he is making demands like an all pro or something.

Ishmael's not going to be a 5-star for much longer, at least on Rivals anyway:
Ouch.

There has been talk about Ishmael Sopsher and whether he is a true five-star this fall. He does flash on tape and he is a big body at a premium position, but he did not play at that level this week. He did not take as many reps as others, and when he did he struggled. Is he fully healthy? Sopsher is still very talented, but his performance in Florida did not equate to the No. 18 prospect in the country.
Ouch.

This kid seems to have serious motivation issues. I really hope we don't use a spot on his brother.

There were a lot of LSU fans questioning his work ethic early on in the process. This criticism was met by accusations of just being butt hurt by a certain base.

Meh. If he was good enough to be a five star for two years, a week of practice at an all star game shouldn't change that.

Gumbo is right this is a perception move by Orgeron. If he was seriously legit I think Bama would have offered his brother a spot. Not saying he isn’t good but he may not be good enough to give up two spots. I just hope Bama hangs on to Young and picks up another good DT.

It's not just a week of practice. People have been saying this kid has motivation issues for a while now. This week of practice is just an opportunity for many of the guys who run the rankings to see this first hand. It surely doesn't sound like he's done anything to dispel that criticism of him.

No one wants to take his brother. But Orgeron has to lock up the state and he’ll do whatever he has to.

Too much turkey and gumbo over the holidays for the bigs. A month of eating and laying around playing x-box will do that to you.
