That goes back to understanding and knowing the defense and where to line up. Confusion on how to line up leads to being out of position and bad angles. Also leads to thinking instead of just reacting.

I don't think he counts against either unless he plays. If he plays, he automatically counts against the 85.

If he plays in his first two years, he counts against the annual limit of 25.

At least, that's the way I understand it to be.

Yes.

Even if he was on a basketball scholarship, he'd count against the 85 rule if he played football.

With Reuben's access to all things Auburn I can guarantee he will be spending all available time learning BVG's defense. The role of MLB. Is it the same as scrimmaging/ games? No, but I am positive he will be well schooled in assignments.

I believe he has to play first in order to count against the 85.... he won't count against the 85 because he'll redshirt this season, in all likelihood.

just clarifying you point... he can practice with the team and do all the things scholarship players do, but once he plays in a game, he counts against the 85.

shouldn't be an issue anyway... we're at 78 scholarships for 2012, I believe.

Academic scholarships only count for one year, if he plays. Then if he maintains a 3.3 gpa, it does not count against the 85. So if he redshirts and keeps up his gpa, then it would not count.

In football or basketball, a student-athlete who was recruited by the awarding institution and whose only source of institutional financial aid is academic aid based solely on the recipient’s academic record at the certifying institution, awarded independently of athletics interests and in amounts consistent with the pattern of all such awards made by the institution, may compete without counting in the institution’s financial aid team limits, provided he or she has completed at least one academic year of full-time enrollment at the certifying institution and has achieved a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.300 (on a 4.000 scale) at the certifying institution.

WLB opens up next year, could be Frost moves to WLB and Foster goes to SLB. Don't forget Cass Mckinzey will be a returning player and get bigger by next year.

5:10 pm update: A source tells AuburnUndercover.com that Tray Matthews and his family, including his father, are having a great visit so far and the feedback has been very positive. They are watching practice right now and will meet again with some of the coaches afterwards. I think it will be closer to 6:30 or 7 before he leaves now. We'll have a full update then.

***** Tray and his family arrived in Auburn at just past 1:00 pm CT. They are scheduled to watch practice later this afternoon and leave around 6 pm. I'll have a full report after he leaves. Practice today is closed to media but we will be interviewing coaches and players afterwards for more coverage of fall practice.
