Gage Batten has a full ride to Auburn this year for academics. He is planning to play linebacker and excited for BVG's teaching ability to give him a shot at LB. He hasn't been pitched on fullblock as of a month ago. The kid is super genius he is doing the pre-med track currently and has everything set to potentially graduate early as well
- This is all from a personal conversation with Gage Batten

I see so is the Gage Bennett a typo? Did you mean to say personal conversation with Gage Batten?

I was wondering how long it would take him to catch on to the hints you guys kept dropping.
Looks like you finally gave in and spelled it out.

Autocorrect on my phone and missed it. Wasn't that funny

I wasn't laughing at the typo. I was laughing at everyone trying to drop you hints of said typo. It's not a big deal, I knew what you meant.

So basically this will be the smartest special teams player we have until he takes over the FB duties in two years.
Sorry to get all Brannigin but im not overly excited about getting a LB over Ivy League schools.

If you read between the lines in the article, his ability to grasp and understand the defense so easily in some ways makes up for his shortcomings athletically.
Ex. How many times did Holland look lost or like we couldn't get lined up correctly on D last year?

Which is why we moved Whitehead to safety. We need him back there to keep our linebackers lined up correctly.

I love Whitehead and Therezie I think they are going to be a force this year.
What are your guys thoughts on Holland not this season, but next. Do you think he loses his job as a senior to Reuben right away, or will he start and Reuben will play sparingly/often/or start later in the year?

If he is smart enough to get our Defense in the best play every time based on reading the offense, then he can just stand there and it would make a huge difference. Then if he could make a tackle every now and then it would be that much better.

Unless Holland makes huge strides, or Foster gets hurt/in trouble, RF will be starting my mid-season. He'll come in and immediately be our most talented player on that side of the ball, it will just take him a little while to get comfortable enough in the defense to play many meaningful snaps. My opinion anyway.

Look, Reuben will have to come in and prove himself. His five stars aren't going to automatically get him the starting spot. But if we're all honest about it, and as long as he comes in and works, I don't see any way he doesn't start right away. Kid is much bigger version of Tray Blackmon and arguably the best LB prospect in the last 3-4 years. If he comes in and plays up to his capability, he'll be off to the NFL in 3 years.
If coaches care about seniority, they'll start Holland. If they care about winning, they'll start Foster. Simple as that. But again, it's all contingent on Foster's work ethic and ability to stay healthy.

^^ and Foster has to grasp the defense.
Watched a couple of our games from last year. Watched Holland whiff on sooooooo many tackles/angles. Hurt to watch. And he, by far, wasn't the only one. Most of our defense was pathetic at tackling.

McNeal was absolutely nauseating to watch at times. He'd fly into the backfield and have an open shot at the RB and just whiff. Over and over and over. I really hope our starting safeties this year are Whitehead and Florence.

Since the smart kid is on an academic scholly, he doesnt count against our 85?
If so, we dont we manipulate the numbers and have everyone with a 3.0 to try and get academic scholkys?
