Talk about it in The Dawg Pound
South Panola four-star safety Antonio Conner has narrowed his focus to four schools.

Antonio Conner is focusing on Mississippi State, LSU, Alabama and Ole Miss.
The top prospect in Mississippi has a loose timeline for a decision and is eliminating potential suitors as the process rolls on.

"I'm basically still looking around right now," Conner said. "Some of my top schools are Mississippi State, LSU, Alabama and Ole Miss. I'm narrowing it down as time is going."

Conner has visited Ole Miss, Alabama and Mississippi State so far this summer and hopes to take a trip to Baton Rouge soon.

The 6-foot-2 standout has packed on 10-pounds in the offseason and is now up to 202-pounds. He spent two days at MSU's camp working at both safety and cornerback but says that he prefers safety.

Conner has made multiple trips to Starkville in the past year.

"I've come over here for a couple of games," Conner said. "It was real loud."

The Batesville native wants to wait to see how the season goes before making his decision.

"I just want to go over there and see how things are going and how the coaching staff is and how they are looking before I decide," Conner said.

Last season Conner was a star in all three phases for the Tigers. He rushed 236 times for 1,472 yards and 22 touchdowns, caught four passes for 49 yards and completed 8-of-20 passing for 141 yards, two scores and an interception.

Defensively he recorded 23 tackles, two interceptions, 10 pass deflections and recovered a fumble. Conner also added 390 return yards and two more touchdowns helping lead South Panola to a 9-4 record and into the quarterfinals of the Class 6A State Playoffs.

"It was real hard but at the same time you just have to do what's best for your team," Conner said. "I didn't mind doing it. Whatever the coaches need me to do I was willing to do it, anything to help out the team."

Conner is rated the 44th best prospect in the country and the No. 5 safety prospect.

With the playoffs coming and the chances of 1-4 being selected to them, I just thought of a new pitch for Saban.

"At Alabama, you're all but guarantee'd to AT LEAST play 14 games a season. That means NFL Scouts will have even MORE tape on you so they can see how great you are."
