I'm not too keen on the Kenneth Santa Maria silent. We could do much better IMO.

The University of Alabama's OL/DL camp and 7-on-7 tournament is this weekend in Tuscaloosa. The coaching staff is expected to have big names on campus including several of the Crimson Tide’s top commitments.

quote:

The 7-on-7 tournament which begins Friday through Saturday will feature 48 high school teams from across the country. Pool play will begin Friday with each team guaranteed to play at least seven games while competing in the tournament. The seeding for the tournament is based on record in pool play. The event is open to any team who pre-registered. It is not an invite-only event.

Numerous top prospects are expected on campus with so many teams on campus. Information is not available from Alabama on teams competing.

The OL/DL camp is also open to players who pre-registered. Alabama has four offensive line commitments, and Laremy Tunsil remains on the recruiting board. It’s also very possible a prospect who competes in the camp earns a scholarship offer from the staff this weekend.

Three of Alabama’s four offensive line commitments are expected to compete in the camp including Grant Hill, four-star offensive guard from Huntsville High School, Bradley Bozeman, three-star offensive guard from Handley High School in Roanoke, and Andy Dodd, three-star offensive guard from Pepperell High School in Lindale, Ga.

Another Tide commitment who plans to spend time in Tuscaloosa this weekend is Altee Tenpenny, National 100 running back from North Little Rock High School in Ark. He is returning after camping with the coaching staff last week. The 6-foot, 205-pound back camped at Oklahoma State this past weekend. He clocked a 4.38-40 yard dash and 3.98-shuttle.

Michael Hill, four-star defensive tackle from Pendleton High School in S.C.,, plans to spend time at Alabama Friday and Saturday. Hill is one of the top overall prospects in the South. Clemson and South Carolina were considered the early favorites. Ohio State is now a top contender. Alabama can get in the mix with a good visit to the Capstone.

Several in-state linemen who have confirmed their participation in the camp include Noah Armstrong, offensive tackle from Lawrence County High School in Moulton, Cameron Fraser, an offensive tackle from Central High School in Phenix City and a South Florida commitment, Robert McGee, center prospect from Mountain Brook High School, and Jerry Harris, defensive tackle from Hueytown High School.

Several out-of-state prospects who plan compete in the camp include Jake Thomas, four-star offensive tackle from Columbus High School in Miss., Christian Morris, four-star offensive tackle from East High School in Memphis, Tenn., and teammate Bobby Billingsley, a three-star center, Lovell Peterson and Gerald Willis, 2014 defensive ends from Edna Karr High School in New Orleans, La.

Walker Jones, three-star linebacker from Evangelical Christian School in Cordova, Tenn., remains one of the top uncommitted players in the Volunteer State. College coaches are staying in close contact and eager for him to visit this summer.

quote:

"I haven’t been anywhere yet," said Walker Jones. "I am going to the Vanderbilt 7-on-7 camp in mid-July. I am going to the Alabama camp in July for a day or two.

"I talked to coach Groh. I spoke with coach Hand today from Vanderbilt and coach Franklin. I talked to coach Mirando and coach Collins. I’ve also talked to coach Horton from Arkansas. I’ve talked to all those coaches in the past couple of days."

Jones discussed more of his conversations with the four schools.

Vanderbilt: "Coach Franklin was just saying he is excited about me coming up to the 7-on-7 camp. He told me he is ready to see me. He hopes I am doing well. He really wants me there."

Mississippi State: "They talked about the commitments they have received in the past few days. They were saying they are having a great class and really want me to be a part of it. It’s pretty exciting for them right now with all the new commitments."

Alabama: "Coach Groh was saying they want to get me at camp to see where I fit in. They think I will pay inside linebacker now. I haven’t played that in high school. That’s the main reason they want me to come to camp to see how I fit in."

Arkansas: "Coach Horton just wants me to come down for a visit. I went to Arkansas a few years ago when they played Alabama. I really didn’t get to visit. Coach Horton wants me to come down there to see the campus and meet the entire coaching staff."

The 6-foot-2.5, 225-pound prospect hopes to visit Arkansas and Mississippi State in the near future. He has not scheduled any other trips at this time.

We are so inconsistent though. We'll win 6 of 7 and then lose 5 of 6. We desperately need some pitching and our outfielders to get healthy.

Golson or Tunsil would be great additions, but Santa Marina wouldn't be a bad option if we miss on those two.

I really like him, but with the commitment of Leon Brown I dropped him on my wishlist.

Bakersfield (Calif.) Liberty long snapper Cole Mazza tells BOL he has committed to Alabama. We're currently at the 247Sports convention, but much more on the way.

We can add California to the list of states we have commits form in this class. So, that's cool I guess

he must be a heck of LS. I saw he had at least 4 offers. Surely that isn't common

Hell no.

ETA:
While it isn't bananna worthy, I think it is a good pick up for a couple of reasons:

1) his times and accuracy are supposedly off the charts.
2) it is a clear reflection of how deep the team currently is if the staff is willing to offer to a freaking LS. That would/should never happen if your team has extreme needs elsewhere.
