Monroe (La.) Neville safety Laurence Jones is one of the nation’s top defensive backs in the 2014 cycle. The 6-foot- 2, 210-pounder camped at Alabama last week and walked away with an offer from the Crimson Tide as a result of his performance.
Jones is among the very best in what is a loaded 2014 cycle in Louisiana.
“It went good. I played good, loved the atmosphere, and everything was good to me,” said Jones. “I played DB, and Coach Saban coached the DB’s, so I got a lot of one-on-one time with him. I talked to him in his office and he offered me. It was a great honor to hear that- because you know, it’s Nick Saban. Coming from him, it’s pretty good.”
Jones was in Tuscaloosa for all four days of the camp and identified the one-on-one instruction from Saban and the opportunity to get a closer look at Alabama’s academic support system as highlights of the trip.
“I was there for the entire camp. I’ve been there a couple times. The best thing to me was being coached by Nick Saban at cornerback. I switched to strong safety during the camp. I kind of like strong safety.
“I like the way they take their academics seriously. I like how they make sure football players do their best with their grades and that kind of stuff.”
The northeast Louisiana native was also able to spend time building a relationship with area recruiter Mike Groh.
“Coach Groh was giving me really good advice. We had some one-on-one talks. He isn’t trying to force me to come there and was telling me to go to the school where I’m most comfortable and can make impact. He said he’d love for me to come there.”
Jones has struck up a friendship with fellow camper and 2014 defensive back Tony Brown and had the opportunity to speak with a few Alabama freshmen who also hail from the Pelican State.
“Me and Tony Brown have gotten close. We hung out a lot during the camp. I got to talk to a couple players. I got to talk to (Denzel) Devall who played for Bastrop- he just got there. I got to talk to Landon Collins for a little bit and some of the older players.”
The four-star prospect now holds four offers from Alabama, LSU, Arkansas, and Ole Miss. He remains open and plans on making a trip down to Baton Rouge later this summer.
“I don’t really have any top schools just yet. I want to go to the LSU camp. Unless my coach brings up another camp for me, that will probably all that I go to this summer.”
Jones has a grade of 97 from 247Sports and is ranked as the no. 21 prospect in the nation, regardless of position.

Wonder if we have any shot at Jones? Have to think the success we will have in La in 2014 will help

After DM posted Henry to Bama thread on BOL it was deleted, so does that mean we hear something today? lol that's usually the track record and mods don't delete unless he scoops and there was no bickering on the thread

Hopefully. I hope he stops in today. I need to give him some shite about the Reds.

At least he isn't a fricking Yankees fan. I went to the game last night and I swear half of the people there were Yankees fans, and the majority of them had thicker southern accents than I do. Bunch of POS bandwagon scum.
Typical "my grandfather was a Yankees fan" or "my former roommate's cousin's boyfriend played for them for a couple of years back in the 90s" types.

I am a Reds and Orioles fan. My mom's family is from Baltimore and use to see the games in the summer when we visited. My great uncle though lived in Cincy and when he retied from the Army worked as a security guard at Riverfront Stadium. In my office I have a picture with all of the Big Red Machine, a baseball with all the sigs, a bat with Pete Rose's autograph, and a my youth catcher mit with Bench's autograph, which is a very rare one to get.
