Adams is much more explosive than Goldman IMO. Goldman is more of a space eating, read and react player. Adams explodes off the ball with the intent to disrupt in the backfield. Don't get me wrong, they are both 5* prospects but with different skill sets.
After getting both Alphonse Taylor and Darren Lake in the 2012 class, I think Adams would fill the need for a disruptive DE/DT more than Goldman. I guess Adams would fit the mold of Dareus better than Goldman and that's what we need now. Our NG position seems to have been filled with the addition of the two listed above. We need playmakers on the outside of the DL. Adams and Isaac Rochell from GA would fill those spots nicely.

I think we need to push for more disruptive, physically ready D-Lineman as opposed to going after oversized LBers like Bosa anyway.
With the way we lose people early to the NFL, if we aren't careful we could be caught with our pants down by expecting smaller guys to grow into DEs, a la Ed Stinson. Size is something that you can't teach and we need to bring them in ready to contribute immediately, especially with our numbers being short.
We do it with LBers, it's time we do it with D-Lineman.

I would like to to see one more true NG in the next class. We also seemed set a couple of years ago there, and then poof. Brandon Moore and Kerry Murphy were gone in one offseason.

That's why I was so happy to land Tomlinson, he is nasty and already 280, Kirven is big as well, but very raw, but a few of our LBs like Ragland and Anderson are already a solid SEC size, if Anderson's home is gonna be at Jack he could still add 20 - 25 lbs to 275 or so

Well, assuming we get Nkemdiche, our Jack spot should be in good hands. I could see Anderson moving to Mike or Will once Nkemdiche comes onboard, so that should solve that problem. I don't see Anderson putting on a ton of weight, but filling Hightower's role. Situational pass rusher, but manning the middle primarily.
Cap, we got two very good prospects in the 2012 class to fill the NG role. One should redshirt so we can stack their eligibility. There's not a bonafide NG, yet, in the 2013 class to help fill that role. One may emerge later, but as of now I think our staff is focusing on the outside roles with prospects who can slide inside on passing downs.

As far as Murphy and Moore go, they were DEs in our defense, not NGs. Yeah it sucked to lose them, Moore especially, but they didn't have the mass to man the middle for us.

I just think we're back behind the numbers again after 2012. If Jesse Williams moves inside to NG, he'll be gone after this season. Undra Billingsley could play there too, but he's a senior as well. Brandon Ivory is still a work in progress. That leaves the two true freshman and Ivory battling for the job in 2013. I'm hoping a polished JuCo prospect comes along for the '13 class.

Once again, I'm not a professional, but I do understand film. Call it a coaches intuition if you will, seeing as I've coached many sports and recognize talent when I see it. Sometimes I'm wrong but more than not I'm right. Hence my support of Hackenberg before todays article. He just has the "look" of an Alabama QB, more than anyone else in this class. Most of my thoughts have nothing to do with who Alabama is after, but my own evaluation.
Sandkhan knows me. We've hung out before. He's good people too. He knows his shite.

Both played inside at times. Murphy logged some time at DE, but he's was set at that spot. He's a body we could really use inside this fall. The same goes for Moore.

I think both guys will be pleasent surprises that we signed in this class. Darren is EXTREMELY underrated not as much exposure, every camp he went too he beat everyone and was called unblockable by more than a few analysts.
Alphonse is a little more large and raw, but very athletic for his size, gonna be interesting to see how quickly he relearns the position and develops

Trust me, I know. We rolled the dice and placed our money on Alphonse Taylor when I thought we should have pushed for Daniel McCullers, who eventually followed Sal to Tennessee.
We had a severe drop-off after Cody left in 2010, but we covered extremely well this past year with superb ILBer play. That could be what the staff is going for moving forward. Excellent LBer play in the middle can make up for an elite NG. Given our great LBer recruiting I think this could be our future.

You don't have to tell me. I've been on that bandwagon since last summer. The guy is very talented. He just played at a very poorly funded high school. His name didn't get out there much, beyond his camp performances at Tennessee and Alabama.

One positive for both Lake and Taylor is their wingspan, something Josh Chapman lacked. They are both long and stout which should help in the trenches. I will be looking into their strength gains to see if they are able to hold the point of attack, Lake especially. His high school had a joke of a strength and conditioning program. If he can hold up in Cochran's system, he could be special. Taylor has the wide, squatty base (if you can call 6'6" squatty) that you want in a NG, but he is lacking in upper body strength.

As for a 2013 guy filling that NG position, I have yet to find a guy that fits Alabama's system. I'm sure someone will emerge, most likely a JUCO as you pointed out, but as of right now that seems to be a very weak spot in the 2013 class.

Personally, I think Adams' film is more impressive than Goldman's. Adams just explodes right up the middle like there is no O-lineman there.
Posted on 2/7/12 at 9:21 pm to TideSaint
Daniel McCullers didn't show up on the radar until late spring, early summer, last year. So, I think we can assume another JuCo will at least get a look in this class.

Another possible scenario to consider is Brandon Hill moving to NG if the staff doesn't feel he has the footwork to make it as an OT. He certainly has the size (6'5" 355lbs) and he played on the DL his senior year. If we sign 3 offensive tackles in the 2013 class, which is expected, I wouldn't be shocked to see Hill make the switch. He has that mean streak defensive coaches look for and he's played the position. In all honesty, I wouldn't rule out him and Taylor swapping positions when all is said and done.

I could actually see Hill moving inside to Guard if we take 3 OT's in 2013. Williams, Ivory, Taylor, and Lake should be enough imo at NT for the time being.
