I'm sure this story will penetrate deep into the Vol faithful. And I'm sure ESPN will not have their consent, when its reported.

Kiffin being tied to it alone will make it 100x more talked about on ESPN. I'm sure his "any publicity is good publicity" quote will get brought up a few times.

perusing vols boards, it looks like the concensus excuses will be:

1.The victim was able to put it in the past and support him coming to UT, so everyone else should.

2.He was only 13 and didn't put it in her, he was just in awe of a God-like 17 yo and wanted to impress him.

3.Everyone is hypocrites for not forgiving him.

Looks like the guy ain't the only one in denial.

I must say as a Vol fan, I don't like this.

However, I have a question for everyone who is a college football fan.

Is there any scenario where this kid gets a chance at any school?

Earn a right to school based on academics, perhaps. As a representative in extracurricular sports. No way.

I have to admit to some mixed feelings here. I would not want him signed with AU. It is too much of a black eye and negative publicity. I do not think anything he can do on the field would make up for the embarrassment his signing would do and the way it is perceived.

That said, it is not like the kid does not deserve to have a life now. It is not like he should just throw in the towel and never be able to accomplish anything in life now. I would prefer something like this to be a situation where he signs with a smaller school and his signing would likely go unnoticed and he would still have a chance to make something in his life through football. For those that think he should pay for this forever, he would still be paying for it by not getting to play in the SEC in the spotlight. I did not read what his actual punishment was to begin with, so have no comment there, but I do not think the guy should throw in the towel on life now because of what happened.

From all accounts, the only remorse he has shown has been very recent. Pretty convienant. He shouldn't be getting a scholarship from any school, big or small.

No idea. But that would factor into my opinion of whether he should be eligible for any scholarship from any college (even at a lower level).

The more and more that I think about this, the more I kind of think he should get another chance. Yeah, its really fricked up what he did, and in no way am i justifying what he did, but he was 13. UT has already decided to let him play for them, and there really isnt anything anyone can do about at this point, so I think the media should just lay off of the situation for the sake of that girl. The media are only gonna make things worse for everyone.

No way in hell should he get a free ride. Convicted of rape and kidnapping > good football player. He can get a second chance by working and earning an education without getting it for free. He had an IQ of 119 at the time, he laughed as they duct taped her and instead of getting a parent in the next room, he got the plunger and when done got on a playstation like nothing to it, never showing remorse. No way in hell should he have ever gotten a free scholarship to any school. No matter the age, he's a convicted, violent felon. Period.

So do you think he should be able to play, but not get a scholarship? I would agree with this.

Absolutely no scholarship at all. I would be iffy on the allowing him on a team in extracurricular activities too, to be honest. I could see gray in that area if he wasn't on any type of financial aid at all.

he doesn't belong at a major school. he should also get no aide. he should have to pay for everything himself. If he wanted a free ride he shouldn't have raped his cousin

Here is part of the letter the victim supposedly wrote to UT.

“I know... Daniel on a personal level and believe that he has been very remorseful towards me,” the letter reads in part. “He is a very caring individual. We are now working on rebuilding our relationship. Hoping to become a family like before. He is becoming a very mature adult and will be a great asset to any college and to society as a whole.”

It's been six years and they're just NOW working on rebuilding their relationship...timing is everything. Things that make you go hhmmmmm...
