You would put Spurrier over Tanner or McQuire?
I was referring strictly to football coaches.
Of course, if we are talking all coaches it would be:
1. Ray Tanner
2. Frank McGuire
3. Steve Spurrier

Hatfield best years were in the late 80s. Holtz def. left him some talent though.
Anybody who says anything other than McDonnell is on crack. John McDonnell is the most dominant coach in history in any NCAA sport.

Tim Walton
I'd put Walton up but I think it's harder to break into big time Men's basketball than it is to break in to Softball where it seems like all the powers are in the Western US.

I'm really not sure how much talent Hatfield's first team had, but the conventional wisdom in Arkansas is that Holtz didn't leave him much. We weren't ranked and we failed to win any big games in Holtz' last season and Hatfield's first. I'm pretty sure that Hatfield recruited most of the players from his best teams, though, including Rouse, Grovey, Foster, Derek Russell and our other RB whose name escapes me.
Regardless, I was a big Holtz fan when he was at Arkansas and I hated to see him leave, but I still think Broyles accomplished far more. I'd even say that was true if you included Holtz' years at Notre Dame, where it was obviously a lot easier to win big then at Arkansas.

Football-Broyles,built the program
Basketball-Sutton,built the program from sawdust up/Broyles who put a priority on basketball
Track-McDonnell,over 40 national championships,speaks for itself
Baseball-Debryn(sp)got the ball rolling for our current staff....
Our program has had some good success over the years and there is no reason to believe we won't have success in the future. It will happen,it will get done...

The OP asked who was your school's best football coach, not who is the greatest coach in SEC history in any sport.

General Neyland is easily over Summit, he faced much better competition. Pat only had 3-4 teams to compete against. She became far less dominant as the competition ramped up. Geno owned her.

Wade- Established Bama football as a national brand with Rose Bowl Victory
Saban- Brought Bama back to where its supposed to be after horrendous sanctions and flipped AU owning the state.
Frank Thomas- Rockne protege who kept Bama on top of Southern football and in Rose Bowls when the master, Wade left.
