My guess is to show other teams that they have this play available.
I doubt they run it but it might make other teams think about it which could sway some kickoffs

I saw an interview with Bobby Bowden once, this was back in the 90's during their great run of top 5 finishes. Someone asked him about running up the score, and he replied (I paraphrase as best I can recall) -
"It's up to you to stop us. Besides, we're not running up the score - we're just running our offense, no matter who is on the field, even if it is our third or fourth string teams. How could I ask those guys not to score when they have worked hard for the opportunity all week on the practice field? Do you want me to put them in the game and then tell them not to do their best?"

Did Bowden start using trick plays to run up the score?
Never had a problem with a lopsided score if the winning team was just playing normal plays and couldn't be stopped.
Heupel has always done this crap, including when he was at Mizzou. Didn't like it then, either.

Call didn’t come from Heupel. The kicker see the hole in the middle of the field and kicked it their! But non the less, we need to work on certain things in games that you can’t work on it practice.
You struggled to beat a team, and prolly should have lost at him against Boston College. BC best win was just man handled by Memphis!
