quote:correct except for your buddy in this thread saying Kiffin losing this would be the first step to a hot seat
It’s because your initial wording is arse.
And no one is talking about the possibility of this game leading to someone getting fired.
quote:one will be afforded more opportunity if things go not as expected, I am not saying it is happening this season
So contract buyout amounts aren’t really that relevant to the argument. Both will be afforded other opportunities to win a big games.
This is Goldings first major test at establishing an identity in his first full season as a head coach. Kiffin at least has the last 9 seasons showing that he can grow a program and operate efficiently in the NIL era
quote:Unlikely to happen, but If one coach were to be fired within the first 2 seasons who do you think it would be
Results would have to be atrocious for either to be fired after their first two seasons.

Is he an elite coach? He 1st became a college head coach in 2009 and has coached zero playoff games. He’s an elite QB coach. He’s an elite self promoter. But as a head coach? Is he even top 20 since 2009?

LSU fans wrongly assume that Lane Kiffin was the driver behind our NIL program and that couldn’t be further from the truth.

As stated… Results would have to be atrocious. But LSU has shown to have the drums beating after a couple of eight win seasons…. Especially with a coach that is as you put it seasoned.
We just had to replace our head coach and majority of our offensive staff. That inherently is a built-in excuse for Pete. If Kiffin‘s offense doesn’t work, there’s a major issue because he supposedly brought everyone he wanted to bring with him. Same with his defense.
Pete will have the opportunity to make staffing changes before being on the hot seat

I don't know why LSU fans are complaining they sent death threats to Tebow and his family

I agree this is unlikely, but to answer your question, Kelly went 10-4, 10-3, and 9-4 and then was fired mid season after starting at 5-3 (with all three losses to top 15 teams). How long do you think LSU will happily pay $75-80 million/year in coach and player payroll for 8-4 seasons? Or even 9-3?

I am not asking which fanbase will want their coach fired more, I am asking which admin would be more capable and likley to do so of the 2. Your argument that we are paying Kelly's buyout doesn't exactly help to make the argument that LSU is more able to do so, it is one of the primary reasons we are less likely to do so
If both were to underperform in their first 2 seasons (lets say 7-5/6-6 in first 2 seasons), which coach is more likely to be fired
The guy with the 5 year $35 mill contract and lower buyout and lower percentage of guaranteed contract money. Or the guy with the 7 year $91 contract with the higher buyout and higher percentage of guaranteed contract money being paid by the school still paying their previous coach's $54 mill buyout
LSU would not be able to fire him in 2 years even if they wanted, unless y'all really do think LSU is super wealthy andt has endless amounts of money, LSU is simply more married to KIffin than Ole Miss is to Golding
Both fanbases would definltely want their coach's fired if they were 7-5, 6-6 and perhaps LSU fans would want it even more, but you seem to be arguing from the perspective of which fanbase would want their coach fired more, and I am arguing from the perspective of which school would actually be more capable.

All of this talk about contracts and job security is fine, but I think it misses the main thing.
Last year Kiffin did something that was unthinkable to everyone in the sports world. He left a team that was headed to the playoffs. Think about that.
He was widely, and justifiably, raked over the coals. So he tried to offer excuses for acting that way, by saying that he was leaving a program that couldn’t compete at the highest levels, for a rival program that had built-in advantages making it far superior.
That excuse fell apart when we got within one play (and a no-call PI) from making the championship game. Winning, along the way, against the same team we had lost to under his time at the helm.
So now he’s had the whole offseason to use the great advantages built in at LSU. The recruiting, resources, etc. Virtually unlimited budget for coaching salaries, support staff, whatever. A $50 million player payroll. Enough cash to tamper/lure away our top tackler and top sack leader from last year.
And now, the entire justification for his unthinkable decision last year is on the line. He’s got to win this game, against the team he abandoned because he said it can’t win. He’s got no excuses.
For us, we want to win and will be very disappointed if we don’t. But our mouths haven’t written the kind of checks that he has.

If you think either of those situations were even remotely similar to the OM/Kiffin/LSU thing then you are even stupider than previous evidence suggests.

You said Lane did "the unthinkable" by leaving a playoff team, I said he was only 1 of 3 people to do so.
If you think that factual statement is "stupid", then that says more about you than me.
If you're unhappy with the comparison, Lane's departure is really no different than DeBoer leaving Washington after making a natty appearance.

The other two didn’t leave in the middle of a playoff run; they coached until the season was over. Again, if you don't understand the differences between those situations, I can’t help you. Have a nice day.

Does he actually care about anyone but himself?

Kiffin went 3-3 against Sam Pittman. Got his arse whooped at least once… Is that elite or is LSU an amazing place to coach oozing with ridiculous in-state talent. He’s definitely improved overall, but he still has his “shite the bed” moments. I’d say Kirby Smart is the most elite coach in the SEC right now and nobody should sleep on UGA.

LSU fans can't talk because I remember when they called death threats into Tebow and his family

Well yeah, because Tulane and JMU let them. Ole Miss didn't.
Their personal decisions to leave were no different than Lane's, functionally or schedule-wise. All three took jobs they perceived as better, before the playoff started. The situation was different because Ole Miss made it different, not because of the decision itself. And I'm not even trashing Ole Miss, I understand why they made that decision.
If someone who doesn't understand this VERY SIMPLE fact wants to call me "stupid," then be my guest.
