If he could help the Saints win more, then I would.

Hell no, way too soft and I would be too scared he would lay on me too long in a pile up. The first time he stared at me too long in the locker room were fightin!

But laws change. It wasn't that long ago that sodomy was illegal in just about (if not) every state. It still is in many states. Actually, I think his analogy is pretty good. In Europe, it is legal to marry your first cousin. They think it funny that it is illegal in the United States...or it is illegal in many states.

I realize I am reaching here....but the Germans exterminating the Jews would not have affected my life, either. That was legal in Germany, too, apparently, or at least nobody wanted to stand up against it. Does that mean it should not have mattered to me?

If it's my organization, I wouldn't.

Two reasons...

2. He's gay. I don't mean this in the "I'm against gay individuals and gay lifestyle/marriage/etc..." I'm pro gay marriage and don't care what consenting adults do in the privacy of their own home.

I mean this in the sense that, if it's my organization, I don't want the potential baggage that comes with this. I don't want to be picketed by gay rights groups like its the grand opening of a new chick-fil-a every time someone thinks he's being mistreated. If he doesn't start a game...it's because he's gay. If he doesn't get enough play time...it's because he's gay. I decide he's not that good and we cut/trade him...it was because he's gay. We don't renegotiate his contract to pay him more...it was because he's gay.

I wouldn't want to risk having my organization exposed to being called bigoted at the drop of a hat.

But aren't you giving a 2-sided answer? You're saying BECAUSE he's gay that you're afraid of ANY possible reaction & therefore saying "no" over an unknown issue that may NOT ever happen.

I said him being gay brings a potential media nightmare of unprecedented proportion.

And that his play combined with this is not worth the risk.

& can't the same thing be said about anybody else? Will Michael Vick ever live it down? Will the LSU player who CONTINUOUSLY FAILED drug tests ever live it down? How about the Dolphins guy who bullied his teammate? Or, think it was Texans, the guy who killed somebody?

Now, had it just been left as to his athletic ability, you've got legitimate stats that could work for your decision.

If you are actually trying to relate Michael Sam being gay to the Vick or Incognito/Martin scandal then your comprehension skills are severely lacking

Literally having to walk on eggshells with a player because the LGBT groups will be on your arse in a heartbeat should something happen that for one second might be thought to be related to his sexuality. It only takes one instance of him feeling he's being mistreated due to his sexuality for your entire organization to be labeled bigots.

You really think an average 3rd down pass-rush specialist is worth that?

Nah.

The only thing I was comparing is that there are plenty of current/past NFL players with a LOT MORE to be concerned about than who somebody loves.

Is there a right answer? Everything comes down to, it depends. Every MBA program teaches that.

Yeah. You still don't get it.

It's not that he has a little white man in his bed at night. It's the fact that a media circus like no other will forever surround him, and he's just not good enough to warrant that kind of bullshite.

If you can't understand that, just go.
