See how much a revenge game and offensive philosophy change can make? Your argument here is invalid.

The truth is that we will never know if that AU would've beaten USC, but I will say they would clearly have put up a better fight than OU did.
04 Auburn gave the bcs the first major blow and that season was very important to getting us playoffs. Undefeated SEC Champ got left out, then undefeated midmajors such as Boise St and a couple others, and then a Bama/ LSU rematch is what it took to get playoffs.

USC and Auburn largely had the same teams returning from 2003 to 2004. They didn't go through a seismic philosophy shift like 2013 Auburn did

Steve Ensminger to Al Borges. Offense went from not producing to nearly unstoppable. I’d say that’s a pretty big philosophy shift.

And the difference in 2003 vs 2004 is Borges, undefeated, & BCS Championship on the line. Truth is we’ll never know, but you can’t use 1 year to the next as a barometer. That was the point I was making. 2 years, 2 totally different teams and mindsets. 2004 Auburn could have and IMHO would have beaten USC. Tuberville was called Tubershell by fans for a reason or else none of the games except LSU & MAYBE Alabama would have been close. They could have named their score against everyone else they played. Pete Carroll did not have that same philosophy.

Auburn deeply romanticizes their undefeated teams even though two of them have huge asterisks.
93 - Sat out the SEC Championship and the National Championship game, what would have been two of the toughest games of the whole year. It's easy not to lose when you don't play.
04 - Dodged a super loaded and playing lights out USC team. Would you have beaten them? Maybe. But probably not. USC would have been a pretty significant favorite.
Sit out all the championship games, claim how easy it would have been to win them. Nice life.

Stop posting...if you are this ignorant. The difference in O philosophy from 2003 to 2004 was greater than 2012 to 2013.
Only fools believe USCw was loaded in 2004. Look at the evidence.

Common mistake to look at where a player is drafted and not look at their career in the NFL.
No, it isn't.
Lendale White was a guy who got fat and didn't keep himself in shape in the NFL. That has zero to do with him being a dominant running back in college.
Reggie Bush was a 3rd down, pass catching, good but not great back in the NFL. You going to tell me that means he was "that" in college?
Matt Leinart didn't have a big arm and didn't apply himself in the NFL. Does that mean he was a bum in college?
Is Johnny Manziel now a not that great college QB because of what happened to him in the NFL? Aaron Murray was a crappy college QB? Connor Shaw? Do you want me to continue?
Applying NFL careers to guys and determining how good they were in college based off that is ludicrous. And even then, your long analysis shows that at best Auburn had a slight advantage using your metric, not "by far the best roster" as you claimed.

They only had two Heisman winners, the RB who has the most career TDs at USC, studs on both lines of scrimmage, and speed for days on defense.
But keep telling yourself they had no talent. Dumbass.

Some people here should probably look at the play-by-play review of the AU/VaTech game before popping off. Near the end of the game, despite having a Heisman candidate at QB, Auburn called the run for a stretch of 27 out of 28 plays. It was pretty obvious that Auburn was collecting their W and getting the hell out of there, style points be damned...

Travis Daniels was inbounds with a fumble recovery on Auburn’s go ahead score so lsu beat auburn in 2004

Southern Cal would beaten their brains in, so no they weren’t even close to being the best team that year

Not good reasoning. USC played VaTech early that same year and won 24-13 and it was a close game the whole way. Not much difference there.

Isn't this the team that beat LSU off of the penalty on the fg try

you're all wrong.
Technically that 04 USC team didn't exist

Thanks for the supporting evidence. Players who were over hyped in college were revealed as frauds in the NFL. There was a reason that USCw team struggled with so many inferior opponents. They had similar talent with a better PR department.

USC went 37-2 from 2003 to 2005
Here are their results vs Top 10 teams during that 3 year era
@ #6 Auburn - W 23-0
vs #6 Wazzu - W 43-16
vs #4 Michigan - W 28-14
vs #7 Cal - W 23-17
vs #2 Oklahoma - W 55-19
@ #9 Notre Dame - W 34-31
vs #2 Texas - L 41-38
Their 2 losses were to #2 Texas by 3 and @ Cal by 3 in 3 OTs
Boy, they sucked. Totally overrated!
